Halfway thru September. I can see October from here, I hope.

The fall of Nagasaki and the loss of the ships changes the VP ratio to 2.123 to 1. More pain to come when Hiroshima falls, plus the other bases, but if I can extricate the troops, we should still be comfortably below 3-1.

I need to be able to hold Osaka, Kobe and eastern Honshu. Easily said...

Turn is done...and we are rapidly approach the last 100 days of this game! Enjoy it while you can.[:D]

Once more, I dig deep, and the Japanese air force will challenge the skies over the impending clash at Osaka. Every fighter that can fly almost, will be over our wonderful troops. Facility damage is in the 70's, so we have a real chance of surprising the Allies here.

For whatever reason the Allies opened up the rail line between eastern Honshu and Osaka...so we are training quite a lot of troops to Osaka to beef up the local garrison versus the Marine heavy army there.

My E's will continue to run away...some should make Luzon today.

After thinking about, I have sent the Wake CD gun unit to Pescadore...which is weak.

Transports are beefing up Formosa.

And a lot of infantry divisions will show up at Okayama if the Allies don't drop paratroops or do an amphibious invasion.

Two new SSTs will load from the damaged port at Kobe and make a run to Daito Shoto, drop the supplies, and then head for Luzon and ultimately Miri where they will run supplies to China.

Only a few more days and I get another radar equipped Iboat. It is the little things that are exciting now![:)]

So, this is about as pivotal a day as there can be for the future of Japan.[X(]

Can my infantry divisions make it back to Okayama?

Will the Allies bomb and then deliberate attack Osaka? Even if I lose 100 fighters, if the Allies lose 250 more planes what Joy!

Will the Allies move an armor unit and block the rail road between Osaka and eastern Honshu?

Will the Allies try to block my troops from using the rail lines to Okayama thru paralandings or by invasion?

And, of much lesser import, can my E's escape to Luzon?

Will the Wake CD gun unit make Pescadore?

Will more supplies make it to China?

Will the Iboat ever finish installing the radar at Port Arthur?

These questions, and more will be answered in a few hours. Stay tuned...to see if Japan can pull out one more rabbit from the hat!

September 16, 1944

The great retreat continues. From western Honshu and also on the seas.

Two Allied destroyers catch and sink an APD and an E...but the others make good progress at their breakout.

In the skies, the Allies bomb Okayama again...and Japanese flak is there to answer. However, there is no landings, no invasions and more troops make it Okayama on the rail system.

Another 4 divisions will arrive today and the escape to Okayama will be complete. Can they fight their way to the urban heavy terrain of Kobe?

Meanwhile Osaka's AV climbs, and is now on par with the Allies at 3000 each...the Allies are moving lots of forces to Okayama looking for the critical open terrain fight.

Oh my! The suspense keeps building.

There is just so many troops here, no amount of bombing can degrade them all. An important lesson to learn for this kind of meat grinder.

9 Allied Units present,up from 4 yesterday. I need to evacuate to Kobe...but first they must unpack. The runways are repaired...we will be sending all the fighters here. Surely the Allies will anticipate this move...but we must I think.

It took the Allies 11 days to lose over 1000 points of Airplanes, and they just crossed the 26,000 point level for the game.

In the same period Japan lost 250 points of planes and stands at 34,000 points lost for the game.

Oh, for a 1000 Jacks,Franks or Georges...even Oscars!

Other interesting facts: in the last 20 days I have spent 9,000 armament points.

I have 83,000 left for the next three months...but don't really expect to spend like that again, as I rebuilt all the AA and ART that was wiped out in Vietnam.

And, in truth, there simply isn't a lot of reinforcements in the cue for the next 105 days or so.

My kids have flown the coop & were never a reason to drink. [;)] A long time, before kids, we had tropical fish. They went bye bye with kids as we added dogs and a cat. The cat lives on (do they ever die?), and a dog would interfere with trips and such too much.

So, now, have set up a small tank and stocked it with a flaming peach Betta that keeps me company as I pound out the turns. A $3.50 pet...right up my alley. But can he live as long as the game. With a lifespan of 2-5 years...maybe if I do my part.

He reminds me of the Shokaku for some reason...or her sister ship. Pretty smart little guy, a lot like Pavlov's dogs.

Deep in the Yellow Sea the Allies push hard...

Japan's last two battleships are toast -- unless they made port and disbanded prior to this attack.

Doubtful.

A dozen Jill, kamikazes, the Divine Wind, fly under the CAP and impale themselves upon the murderous Allied AA batteries...no hits.

Only bad weather can save the Japanese BBs now...
