Despite the heavy flak, the Allies pay very little for their relatively low bombing.

Lang Son is shock attacked. We hold, but not for much longer!

Canton was the host to 100 transports flying troops back, but yesterday the Allies put recon of the airfield and today B29s and Lightnings showed up. However the transports relocated to another base in China and continued with their air transport mission. Canton's runways were wrecked.

I have come to the conclusion, thru the loss of thousands of planes, the only good target for Japanese land based air is the enemy's invasion fleets and not their fleet carriers.

Expecting an invasion along the north western coast of Luzon, I cobbled together about 200 planes with a decent escort to hit the beaches (i.e. set to very short range).

However, the British Carriers and invasion didn't show up. I am moving some CLs and DDs into the area, to hide at a dot base in the hopes they can slash in and cause ruin to any landing in Luzon.

Luzon is worth a lot of points...victory points that is and the Allies have been relatively weak & hence vulnerable in this area I think.

Sept 30, 1944

No invasion of Luzon...

Honshu bombed and bombarded heavily. Destroyed 30+ Allied planes, mostly Helldivers, for less than 5 Japanese.

Allied subs effective today, but we still strike back at them sinking the Batfish.

Ship losses for the day.

The LST ate two torpedoes, but the E-30 got her revenge. Some Naval Guard soldiers where fished from the drink...lost 2 squads destroyed.

A good trade: Batfish for a LST.

Booted decisively from Lang Son.

I was expecting more near Luzon.

A new month, yay![:)]

Deja Vu, Vu, Vu![X(]

Allies pursue their rigorous naval bombardments of Honshu, but then they wander too close to Kobe...which is not disrupted and ready to deal out some fiery death!

West of Luzon the Army Lilly dive bombers make 3 flights from 2 squadrons and manage only 3 hits. This is the kind of match up I like for the Lilly...somewhat disappointed with the results although we left one destroyer on fire.

I lost 7 Lillies...

Elsewhere, a squadron of Judy's fly without escort and get mauled...right near Fusan. A 2 hex strike while their worthless fighter escorts stayed home, and they would have made all the difference.

Pity.

The Kate's also flew without escorts at the destroyers west of Luzon. If they would have arrived just a little later there would have been no fighter protection as the Lillyu's in the afternoon had a heavy escort.

Hard to complain about the results, but I tried![:D]

Yep![;)]

I have been doing everything I know of to get Allied shipping to divert or chase me into CD guns. It has been tough on the motor launches and MTB's, but it is the price you have to pay.

However, today, there was nothing on this side of Honshu to account for the reaction. I did have a SC on the north side of Honshu...wouldn't it be great if the CVE's reacted to that! Doubtful, but you never know.

It will take some time for the Japanese intelligence to figure out what happened.

A pretty tough unit. There were some 8cm DP guns there as well. I just moved out four of the heavier 12 cm dp ENG units that would have added even more damage.

For the Lilly's this was a six hex strike, albeit into Heavy Rain. Long strikes are certainly hard to pull off, especially when the weather is poor. Plus my search planes are getting weak...everytime they fly into a CV concentration I lose them. Really, quite a pain.[:(]

5 x B5N2 Kate unable to locate target due to range or weather
20 x Ki-48-IIc Lily unable to locate target due to range or weather

I wish there was a toggle for the torpedo bombers not to fly into heavy weather...but boy that is asking a lot.
