Earlier today, I was surprised not to see Ryujo with the mini-KB
and there was this comment from PresterJohn: Another day or two delay from you and this may have been a lot different, mini kb was en-route to form up.
that I also didn't understand.

Then of course, I totally forgot that Ryujo is scheduled to upgrade on 07/42... which means he sent it to Singapore for a 15 day refit (minimum yard is 15; can't be done in Calcutta)

And one turns ago, I got this "heavy volume of radio transmissions detected" on Singapore...

Ryujo is nearby!! which is why I decided to gamble the carriers sending them South; to be in position to get the burning carriers and/ or any new arrival
I hope this doesn't end like the battle of Samar!

Today's turn was very good, I was very worried about Japan doing a banzai charge to my extremely vulnerable landing zones... but thankfully that didn't happen

Key highlights:
- Turn synch issue experienced; I missed a full carrier strike combat replay.

- Invasion fleets unloaded relatively uneventfully. Japanese LBA's launched recon missions, but no strikes. Submarine I-121 sunk CM Gouden Leeuwwas at Koggala. Thereafter it received a heavy DC load, 12 hits. Also at Koggala, an enemy minefield sunk APD Crosby: who was able to clear 2 mines

- Morning carrier strike damaged BB Haruna with 1 torpedo and 5 bombs; on fire.
Afternoon strike obliterated CVE Taiyo with 3 torpedoes and 2 bomb hits... confirmed loss [:)]

- Carriers will head north, to provide cover to the invasion fleet; one more day of unloading and this will be total success. By the way, "Heavy radio volume at Calcutta".. but my nav search haven't find anything

- Other news: Allied submarines near the East China sea keep getting attacked by KB Kates... Good to know they are so far away... unless he is trying to use Kates as noisemakers.

Brisbane was visited by I-22, and there was a report of midget activity, but no consequence at all, other than 7 DC hits to that sneaking bastard.

really everything is working much better than I anticipated, we will see how the next few turns develop.. But what is certain is that by now the Allies have a clear hold on Ceylon, and there is nothing he can do about it. I don't know his supply status, but there haven't been cargo runs in a long time; Once we start fighting he will spend quickly. And as BBFanboy mentioned, he picked a "clear" hex for his last stand.. Won't take too long

- Trincomalee captured by para assault after defeating a MG AA company and a shipping coy
- Other than submarines losses, all quiet at sea, Carriers refueled and replenished (torpedoes, pilots, airframes) at Madras and they are once again guarding invasion fleet
- All LCUs are on land! [:'(]. Only supply is still being unloaded. Most ships of the invasion fleet will withdraw to Madras next turn.
- CA Quincy will merge with the surface cover force... which means I will have 2 heavy cruisers as distant cover. What a paper thin operation [:D], one surface action and I would be writing about disasters
- Submarines were very active last turn, and I lost xAP Van Overstraten (Koggala) and TK HM Stoney (SFran).. this last one was a good tanker [:(]

- I sent my (few) recon planes to check Pt. Blair.. and he is certainly defending it, too risky to try any foray with my limited forces.

For the last many turns, there has been a near constant harassment of my submarines done by carrier capable planes; mainly Kates and Vals.
This started near the HI, but then recently it started near Truk

I was a little suspicious about it, and I think he did it to try to convince me that his fleet carriers were in the Pacific... while they moved to the bay of Bengal...

So, look what I saw last turn:

I have expanded search and probably I will have a clearer picture next turn. If this is indeed a real carrier sighting, then I expect him to attempt the evacuation of 53th IJA ID from Colombo.

Depending on the size of the carrier force, I would decide if I can try to intercept with Wasp/ Illustrious

I will be handicapped from land based; Jaffna and Koggala are still level 1... the former might reach level 2 in the next couple turns. Trincomalee's level 3 airfield is still closed with over 80 damage in runway, 100 in service.

This turn the carriers disappeared; I will remain on alert for at least another couple turns; I will take that time to repair as much damage as I can to my destroyers and cargo ships.

In another news; the Chinese intelligence reported a new, humongous, battleship bombing Wenchow!
Their estimation was around 70,000 tons... and they were obviously wrong, as no such ship exist... I bet they can't differentiate a battleship from a destroyer!

Many quiets turns.. I had been pummeling Colombo with both air and artillery bombardments; this while I try cut all his retreat paths so that when Colombo falls there is nowhere to retreat to
Also, as you can see there is some interesting naval search sightings.. I won't get over excited about it, but I am starting to prepare in case he moves north

I have said it before: because of the lack of firepower the Chinese need at least a 10:1 AV advantage before considering assaulting IJA troops. Then you need to consider terrain and forts that will reduce the AV advantage, and add more AV to offset. Proof of the firepower issue is that the IJA had two tank divisions at Chungking: In the first Chinese attack not one vehicle was destroyed or disabled; in the second attack only seven vehicles were destroyed.

It is almost always better for the Chinese to dig into good terrain and let the Japanese expose themselves by attacking. Put a few allied FA, tank, A/T and AA units with the Chinese and it is a different story.

The first one (actually all except Chungking) was a Japanese attack... Chengchow will likely fall tomorrow as fort levels reached zero

At Chungking I was expecting less enemy troops... so now I will have to retreat and leave him the western hex

But what really worries me is I will be close to breaking the game's record of fastest defeat on China

The battleship were spotted again, and now I am almost sure they are really battleships, with little Hosho covering

I am also having a different interpretation of his intentions; is he just guarding the Andaman sea? that would make no sense as keeping battleship at sea means a big fuel expenditure. Something Japan certainly lacks

we will see what happens, at the present time I have no plans for moving into the Andaman sea, I am certainly happy fighting a land war in India now that Ceylon is back

What else?
- Both BB Yamato and TK Tonan Maru, plus several other minor ships got "hit, no explosion" torpedo strikes [:@] At least crew experience is getting better
