Bombing

Even "more" recon SouthEast of Vyazma. Looking for counter pops I bet. I am curious if he saw anything.

Turn 12 Beginning of Turn (Real Turn Update)

As I have stated in this AAR in the beginning, and elsewhere on the forum, in so many words I don't leave holes in my line for exploitation by the Soviets. On rare occasion I may & Soviets are free to try but now turn 12 it just won't happen at all. Any time you are cleaning up an exploitation into your back lines unopposed you are losing! Control every step & ensure you have coverage you continue your progress. Fail at this.... well you can look at other AAR's and see what happens.

The Soviets probe the line and insert a CAV division in one section of my line. I have two of my seven Panzer Division in reserve and on reserve movement here. Now where are those other 5 PZ Divisons at?.... The 106th infantry division will easily take care of this.

****Note I misspoke last night and said 6 PZ Divisions in Reserve on the Map. I really have 7 in reserve behind the line resting and 2 coming to the Map this turn as reinforcements.

Turn 12 Beginning of Turn (Real Turn Update, real time)

Attack

Soviets open the pocket in front of Moscow since I could not get a unit to the attacked hex to seal the pocket :( That pocket was opened of course. (not pictured)

In this picture next to Bryansk the Soviets attack with a probe attack by a CAV first and a massive attack for the 2nd attack & force a retreat of the PZ Division. Pocket opened. I then smiled a big happy smile when I saw the defense. MP's matter and with supply close and a defense like this well..... We will see what happens after recon since I am kind of counting my chickens before they hatch :(

****Remember I go for Soviet units over VP's as #1 priority
***** Jubjub does love his non-clear & river defense that is for sure.

Turn 12 Beginning of Turn (Real turn Update, real time)

Kharkov Area

Very few Soviets in view before recon around Kharkov. I believe the Soviets have retreated to the full river line I have drawn in Orange for this area of the map. Yet more marching for my troops near Kharkov. Glad railhead isn't too far behind :)

See if I am right on the river defense & not defending in clear terrain. It isn't a bad strat but does give up a great deal of land though.

Turn 12 Beginning of Turn

FBD

Many many turns ago I brought my 3rd German FBD to the South (4 FBD's working in the South if you count the Rumanian) from up north & the rail conversion here is going like clockwork. Not exactly where I would like them but getting the freight where it needs to be. MP's have increased in my lead units from low to mid 30's up into the 40's now for my PZ's and Moto.

***** This snapshot is from many many many many turns ago btw

Turn 12 Beginning of Turn

South

Soviets melt away yet again even with the Soviet division in locking ZoC's. Nature of the beast in WITE2 with Soviets being well supplied & led. Now begins the 2-3 turn ritual of moving to contact them yet again.

Why is there a level 3 fort near the Syvash Lagoon? I was under the impression that to reach that level, the hex had to have enemy units next to it.

It starts that way at the beginning of the GC.
But presence of a Fortified Unit allows forts to get up to lvl 3; and up to lvl 4 in Port / Urban / City hex.

Turn 12

Sorry, got busy at work. I am back for a little bit & will be busy again this afternoon so may not get the Airphase finished. Anyway I have a question. The question is...

Got Flak???

I have only a few Flak out and this was one of the few hexes that I did have a Heavy Flak battalion attached to Hungarian Moto brigade. They are fuel hogs so I try and put them into places where I believe will be bombed & I guessed right on this one. here is the 342nd Heavy Flak Battalion attached to the 1st Hun Moto Brigade.

Turn 12

Air supply

I did intercept Air Supply drops to the hexes being dropped to. But looks like the Soviets had AS in these hexes and lost more planes to OPS losses. But that is only a guess on my part from what I have seen earlier and posted in this thread https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=5079658 where you will receive Air OPS losses from just flying AS in hexes even if you fly in just one phase(friendly or enemy). I do hope Air gets fixed soon & I know it is in the works.

Turn 12

Air Supply

#2 interception took place and again Soviets lose more fighter planes than they had in the battle. I am only guessing at root cause of the extra losses unless someone know for sure what it is or if just erroneous.

**** Trying to shoot down LI2 is like trying to shoot up B-17's. You just don't get many at all :(

A third of planes lost to Flak seems a very heavy toll in general. I was not aware there were SAMs (in general) in '41!
I do not know the altitude and things like that but it seems that flak is highly destructive - beyond the dissuasive and disrupting normal function.

But I assume as interception does not work well presently and the like... this is the way to go.

I do know Germans started a program in WWII with SAM's :) At least I think I remember reading that a very long time ago.

OH!!! Thank you Aurelian! I thought I read something about this long ago. I also remember reading about Germans using Helicopters in Southern Russia too. Is that true too?

Turn 12 Beginning of Turn

Rzhev Bombed!!!

Looks like the railyard was the target. The railyard started in the 90's for damage and I just wasn't going to repair the rail there yet. Probably a wrong move but at least the bombing just damaged what was already damaged. So "AS" interception or auto-interception happened here even though I was in the hex & 8 squadrons of BF109's with 40+ planes each within 8 hexes of the bombing hex too. Oh well...
