Hi Terje,

2 things.

1st. Stalingrad is only 7 8 ish hex from the look away from it and once u get there the river provides a defensible position so it might be easier than some of the other cities to get.

2ndly. Since u disbanded those RR units and u seem to have trouble getting RR repaired and u have tons of AP in the bank. I dont think u fear alot of counter attacks atm. Maybe u could use some of all those AP to move contrucnt btn's back to locked AG HQ so they can repair RR lines. Move 50-60ish units back for 10 ish turns and they should be able to get some more lines up and going giving some redundancy.
This ofc comes at a price in fort contruction in ur front line units but i wonder what Brads counter attack abilities are now, plus his mental state of mind of such atm.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

1. Yeah, I am thinking about it, my main concern is wether or not the vehicle pool can stand a srive south and then north...

2. Hmm yeah, think I might have to look at that. The main issue really is that I have too few railroads going into the areas where I actually need rail (there is 1 single line going to Moscow as an example), so your tip makes good sense.

I do not see this as much as overextension as a lack of railroads [;)]

Turn 135

Disclaimer
I have somehow offended paint and/or the "print screen" button again, and the image taken would not paste into paint...

Overall
Well, speed picked up a little bit, but we are still not able to pocket alot of units, we do however punch a hole in Brad's line with PzA Green, so we shall see what happens in that area now. We also allocated all repair/construction units we could, hopefully it will speed up rail repairs a little bit.
69 attacks gave a result of 10 helds, 50 retreats, 7 routs and 2 surrenders, so a better result than last turn atleast.

Turn 136

Overall
PzA Green seems to be the force to win it for us at the moment, and they do "capture" a city this turn, but Brad can walk right back in...Is a few 50 size auntie-Ju groups too much too ask for?!
Anyway, a total of 71 attacks this turn. The results were 7 helds, 52 retreats, 10 routs and 2 surrenders.

Turn 137

Overall
PzA Red finally surrounds the city NE of Moscow, so it will fall next turn and free the panzers to drive into the open steppes in the south. That will be nice as it will also unhinge Brad's defence east of Moscow and should give me access to the cities there. Our infantry to the west of Moscow took another city this turn. Who would have known that 2CV infantry could still be useful in -44!
PzA Green keeps dislodging the units trying to reform a line in the gap created last turn, and push further east again. They also got to overrun an airfield this turn, which gave up some 200 units of precious fuel!
Parts of PzA Green heads south to put some pressure on Stalingrad, and they are reinforced by whichever motorized/mechanized/panzer formations appear in Berlin.
76 attacks this turn gives a result of 9 helds, 55 retreats, 8 routs, 2 shatters and 2 surrenders.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
3.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
2.

Losses
USSR : 111.000 troops, 2.102 guns, 28 AFVs, 743 AC.

USSR units lost
4 Rifle Divisions, 1 Cavalry Division.

None.

How about disbanding all those forts and placing your infantry on refit for a bit to build up their strength? Or would that work at all?

If 2by3 could implement the idea of reservists and hiwis getting in the back and pushing unfueled panzer into offensive, that sure would help a lot! [:D][;)]

Might help a bit, but there is no need at this point. Had the Red Army been in fighting shape I would have had to consider doing so.

Turn 138 aka I can taste it now!

Overall
We keep pushing, and we are now really close to have the communists send Uncle Joe to a vacation in Siberia.
We take two more cities this turn, and now only lack two!! The USSR might however move back into one of them as we only managed to push them out, but lacked the MP to occupy it.
62 attacks results in 4 helds, 50 retreats, 6 routs and 2 surrenders.
The final phase will be taking the cities shown before, while keep pushing on Stalingrad, as those two vp locations too will see the game end.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
2.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
0.

Losses
USSR : 102.000 troops, 1.922 guns, 23 AFVs, 451 AC.
Axis : 45.000 troops, 451 guns, 151 AFVs, 61 AC.

USSR units lost
2 Rifle Divisions.

German units disbanded
None.

Partisans hunted down

Turn 139

Overall
We push all along the front, and our intel has reported that Comrade Brad is now feeling the manpower crunch as well as the AP crunch. His stubborn troops still fight on though, and we make a small mistake (try to spot it below). Furthermore, as expected, the USSR moved into the city we liberated last turn, so we had to liberate it again this turn, but now we also had the MP to move into the city. It is now firmly ours. Guess the war will go on for a few more weeks due to the stubborness of the Red Army though.
54 attacks results in 9 helds, 30 retreats, 12 routs (!!) and 3 shatters.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
0.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
0.

Losses
USSR : 82.000 troops, 1.518 guns, 23 AFVs, 961 AC.
Axis : 45.000 troops, 458 guns, 180 AFVs, 72 AC.
We overran some USSR airfields east of Stalingrad, hence the higher number of lost AC for the USSR this turn.

USSR units lost
2 Rifle Divisions, 1 rifle brigade.

German units disbanded
None.

Partisans hunted down
7, leaving 2 on the map.

German pools
Manpower : 373.411
Vehicles : 139.408
Armaments : 944.693
Hiwi : 197.113
Wish Mr.Speer would tell Mauser to start making tanks now...

Victory Points
256.

If THAT is all it takes to topple the Wehrmacht at this stage, I am clearly unfit for command [:D]
Nah, just annoyed me when I saw what I had managed to do. Completely unneccessary...

Turn 140 aka we did NOT finnish at the 60th "anniversary" of Stalins death [:@]

Overall
So close, but we simply lack that "little extra" drive in our units. However it seems we are two turns away from victory now unless something unexpected happens.
As expected, Brad isolated my units at Stalingrad, but we extracted them with ease and took the southern part of the city. NE of Moscow the USSR still holds, and we gain only a few hexes here, so seems it might be Stalingrad that seals this one.
66 attacks resulted in 13 helds, 1 scouted, 35 retreats, 16 routs and 1 shatter.
As can be seen by the number of held results, I really tried to end this game this turn. I failed...

Turn 141

Overall
We close the ring around Stalingrad and prepare for the final push next turn. Brad went on an all out attack this turn, simply because there was nothing to lose [:)]
