RE: IJA advances in Luzon & Malaya
Quiet past few turns. We have now reached 1st of February 1942 in game time.
Here is what is ongoing:
* The ground offensives will continue at Singapore.
* The ground offensive at Manila will begin immediately.
* Mini KB is put to sea due to the fact that its fighters are now upgraded.
* Fortifications at Southern Pacific continue along with grabbing some island bases.
* IJA airforce will concentrate its strikes to Malaya and Luzon.
* I try to continue blockade the Malaya and prevent Chuck from removing any resources and Oil.
* Small time invasion force is unloading at Pontianak in DEI.
* The preparations for the Russian campaign continue behind the curtain.
* In China shuffling of troops is ongoing. Currently this area is a total stalemate.
Here is an overview map picture at the start of February 1942. I will do an detailed update when things will heat up.

The odds are NOT good when you look at them. I have every bomber I can muster bombarding the airfields in both places in order to burn supplies down... but it seems not enough! [8|][:(]
I really need start making some progress since the rest of the Philippines is still his as is DEI region. Also unless I start make some progress the Russian adventure becomes nearly impossible or too costly! [:-][:(]
This is not good at all!
So, any ideas/help/suggestions GREATLY appreciated.
I'am airlifting the 55th division out of Burma. (it still taking time to do this) In Luzon there brigade that I released from Home Islands. (I will soon send in another division from Home Islands too)
Really need start these offensives rolling. I only can assault once than need rest the next turn due to distruption. (+50) ...supplies are plenty!

RE: HELP Needed from fellow IJN Players!
greetings....
I had many problems with Manila too... think that is why i gave up from India invasion and turned to Northern Oz...
Don't be depressed with current situation - anyway you need at least 3-1 AV (i think that 4-1 is required)... the best you can do here, IMHO is not wasting time and resources on Manila... you can easily isolate Manila (i guess you have southern Luzon) with few units (IIRC you will get urban bonus too if enemy attacks you)... just in case, build forts in Clark and Naga and starve his troops with constant bombing from air....
that will relase enough units for the Russian adventure IMHO...

RE: HELP Needed from fellow IJN Players!
Your pretty much in a long haul here, If you need the troops elsewhere, pull out all but a blocking force, and bomb from air over the next few months to keep him down. The problem with Manila is not only is a city hex, but with bataan, and manila no bombardment force can get in to help.
Therefore if you need these troops elswhere, treat this as an prisoner camp, but you must keep the airfield suppressed to avoid nasty surprises.

RE: HELP Needed from fellow IJN Players!
Much appreciated guys! [&o]
Pauk: Word of wisdoms. I can imagine that the Manila can be a pain in the butt. Currently Chuck has piled up 31 units into Manila.
I would love to withdraw out of Manila but unfortunately I'am fully committed here. My troops are +80 prepped for the city and I do have bulk of my assaulting force here. [8|] It would take too much time to withdraw the forces.
I don't have anything in Southern Luzon. The only route I took was via North. So, basically Bataan is surrendered. (2 fort units and an base force there) ...everything else in Northern Luzon is mine. (So I do hold Clark Field too)
stldiver: Good suggestions but I stated to Pauk it is very time consuming to withdraw from Luzon. (It would require a lot of work). I guess had I played diffrently than I propably could be doing better.
Here is the plan I have come up with:
Luzon
* Release 1 full division from Home Islands and send it Luzon.
* Send every time bomber/bomber from China/Manchuko to Luzon.
* Keep assaulting him once distrubtion is under 40!!! (I did rout quite few of his units earlier on)
* Send some troops into Bataan in order to neutralize base.
* Once Bataan is done for send in BB TF's to bombard the place into dust.
Singapore
* I have some SNFL + Smaller ground combat units in DEI region. Send these into Malaya too thus increasing my assault strenght.
* Withdraw 55th division from Burma and send it into Singapore too.
* Keep on bombing the base with LBA and burn his supplies.
* Assault everytime I have distrubtion under 40.
That is the best I have come up with! [&:] ...I really want seize either Singapore or Manila before February ends or at least within months time. I want to get the offensive againts Java ongoing before it can be build into real fortress.
Other things:
KB stays in Southern Pacific to protect my bases there againts any allied counterstrike.
Mini KB will stay in South China Sea just in case Chuck sends in capital ships.

RE: HELP Needed from fellow IJN Players!
Here is an general update on how the game has progressed. I will post some screenshots after next turn so you get an better idea what is up
The current game date is 22nd of February 1942 so few turns has passed.
Currently there are two major battle focus ongoing:
1) At Luzon IJA did capture the capital Manila on 21st of February 1942. The defending allied troops were forced to retreat towards Lucen.
IJA has also seized the base at Bataan thus opening the harbour at Manila. I have send already a couple of Naval bombardment TF's to hit the remaining allied troops.
The bulk of my airforce is active at Luzon too. I want to get this thing finished soon.
2) The battle at Malaya has not been as fierce. There are some smaller units ordered to enter Singapore immideately though.
Also IJA 51st division has left Osaka and is expected to embark into Malaya.
Next turn I have ordered an ground offensive though just to see what kind of an odds I do get here.
I have kept bombarding the base in order to prevent Chuck from building fortifications.
An odd thing regarding CHS:
All of my infantry units arrive at 1/3 strenght! [8|] ...I guess I'am lacking manpower because this thing happen?

RE: HELP Needed from fellow IJN Players!
I believe units arrive at 1/3 of strength in case there are not enough troops/equipment in the pool. This is not CHS specific but hardcoded. IIRC this is also stated in the manual.

Mismatz: I think it has something to do with the fact you mentioned. I will need to check my armament production since I doubt I'am running low on infantry men already.

IJ Economy - possible pointers
Hi, have taken a look at your industry summary, which suggests a couple of points:
1. You have no naval shipyard points accumulated. Might this be because you have a number of ships accelerated, and the yards aren't able to keep pace with the acceleration? Consider slowing/halting some warships to optimise their construction.
2. Likewise, you have no accumulation of armament points, and the vehicle points stockpile is quite low. This might well account for your reinforcements arriving at reduced strength: you may only be getting them in 'skeleton' form whilst they await production of the equipment required to fill out their TOE.
Suspect the lack of armament points might be due to all units having replacements switched on, so that all units that are below establishment are competing for equipment etc. Might help to switch off replacements for all LCU's (display them via the 'G' key), then selectively switch replacements back on for those units that really need 'em.
Lack of armament points could also affect some of your operational decisions. You have 2 major sieges: at Singapore and Manila. At both you are getting 0 to 1 odds, and your LCU's are taking casualties that reflect this. You will have to grind him down, and you need to be sure of replacing the troops and equipment lost as that process goes forward. If you are suffering a shortage of armament points the flow of replacements may not be enough to sustain 2 big sieges. Suggest you concentrate on Singapore and deal with Manila later - his forces aren't likely to escape from there so long as you don't excessively weaken the besieging forces.
Potentially this strategy also frees up modest additional forces at Manila which can be used for capture of other parts of the SRA. Your last strategic map posted suggests you had yet to invade Mindanao, Moluccas, Celebes, S. Borneo or Timor and the eastern part of the Indonesian island chain. You need the resources at Kendari and the oil/resources at Balikpapan and Tarakan. To say nothing of Java. Your last post showed the date as 25 Feb, so you only have a month left of Japanese amphibious bonus. Japanese SRA invasions are something of a race against time, and currently I think it's one in which you may be falling behind.

RE: IJ Economy - possible pointers
What local Yokel said (btw, what does that nick mean???), although luckily you already solved the Manila problem.
I always set all replacements/ship upgrades, simply everything to off and control it manually. This is in particular neccessary for the planes but also for LCUs. I'd try to avoid access to replacements for units who are under restricted command (eg Manchuria and China), unless its absolutely mandatory or the type of equipment has large stocks.
Good to see the updates, keep them coming. [:)]

If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

RE: IJ Economy - possible pointers
Yokel = an unsophisticated, perhaps uncouth country fellow (as opposed to a city dweller). In U.K., often associated with the West Country, and by extension my home county, Somerset. Probably a fairly apt description of me[;)]

Cheers guys! Appreciate the all the input. Sorry, It has been really hectic in our IT HelpDesk and I have been dead beat after work to keep things updated. [8|]
Local Yokel: I think you hit the nail with your analysis. The Armament and Vehicle pools are not in good shape. I did expand the though now that you mentioned so hopefully those levels will keep on rising soon. (Propably all the active offensives at Malaya and Luzon are taking their tolls too)
I haven't touched with the naval shipyards regarding expansions. I did however accelerate CV Junyo which btw became operational a turn ago. Only other ship accelerated now is CV Hiyo. (Due to arrive + 100 days) ...I might cancel or postpone Shinano... Haven't made up my mind though. Hopefully the pools will arise bit now that CV Junyo is finished.
As for the replacament turned off. Well, that sounds like an excellent idea! I hardly need to keep every unit turned on at the moment. I will look into this next turn. I'am due to receive some reinforcements soon.
Thankfully the siege at Luzon is soon over. More about in the combat report section.
Yeah. I'am aware of the amphibitous bonus disappearing and I think I can hit Celebes hard before that ends. As for Java I think the best way is to go guns blazing. I can supress hopefully the major airfields and than ram in with tons of transports and that is that. (Hopefully) Chuck cannot have much in terms of assault points in Java just yet. I would estimate that maxium would be + 1000.
Oh, and now I know what the Yokel means! [:D] ...I actually waiting for the British Premier League to begin and to see my favourite FC Liverpool fail once more... [:(]
Mismatz: I do agree with your assesment. At least I need to turn off replacements for Manchuko area since The Russian adventure will not begin just yet at lest.
Thankfully, the aircraft production is going on without any serious hick ups. Allthough I don't have that many reserves yet due to heavy use the pilots at Singapore and Luzon.
...Yes.. I will keep this thing updated from now on with details. [:)]

RE: IJ Economy - possible pointers
The current game date is 3rd of March 1942
Malaya
Singapore
Chuck moved in some 50 RAF Hurricane fighters. I dealt with swiftly and decisive and these RAF pilots felt the full wrath of IJA airforce. I was suprised to see how well Oscars handled the Hurricanes too! [&o]
Day Air attack on Singapore , at 22,51
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 5
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 83
Allied aircraft
Hurricane IIb x 30
Japanese aircraft losses

Hurricane IIb: 14 destroyed
Allied ground losses:
296 casualties reported
Guns lost 8
Airbase hits 21
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 51
These assaults pretty much wiped out any RAF CAP over Singapore! Sadly the ground campaign is not going as well as the airstrikes. This is the latest assault from last turn. At least we reduced the forts but those damn barges have brought supplies into Singapore way too much. (I have moved some dive bombers into Borneo to deal with them)
Ground combat at Singapore
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 95888 troops, 357 guns, 54 vehicles, Assault Value = 1781
Defending force 71913 troops, 358 guns, 1 vehicles, Assault Value = 1110
Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 3
Japanese max assault: 1751 - adjusted assault: 1528
Allied max defense: 1125 - adjusted defense: 1609
Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 3)
Japanese ground losses:
2759 casualties reported
Guns lost 62
Vehicles lost 1
Allied ground losses:
1484 casualties reported
Guns lost 66
Philippines
Luzon
Good progress has been made here. Those units that got routed in Manila retreated to Naga. I guess he wanted the wooden hex bonus for them. Sadly for him they were routed once more and are now all in Legaspi. I guess this will be the Alamo of the Philippine Army! [:-] Too bad I have to wait a turn before I can continue to assault them.
Ground combat at Naga
Japanese Shock attack
Attacking force 135514 troops, 506 guns, 422 vehicles, Assault Value = 2201
Defending force 16533 troops, 12 guns, 13 vehicles, Assault Value = 343
Japanese max assault: 3528 - adjusted assault: 1070
Allied max defense: 287 - adjusted defense: 27
Japanese assault odds: 39 to 1 (fort level 3)
Japanese forces CAPTURE Naga base !!!
Japanese ground losses:
1349 casualties reported
Guns lost 20
Vehicles lost 3
Allied ground losses:
1222 casualties reported
Guns lost 9
Vehicles lost 2
Defeated Allied Units Retreating!
I think the best way to go about this is to keep shock assaulting his units once I reach Legaspi??? (I want to make them surrender ASAP)
My Luzon army is a bit beaten up but I cannot afford to rest for long. There are several allied AK's/AP's reported at Celebes. I don't have good intel what is he up to though. I guess we will soon find out. Due to these sightings I have moved 4 squadrons of GM Nells into Manila and set them on naval strikes.
Other NEWS
Additional IJA division is halfway to Singapore. This unit was released from Home Islands.
KB continues to stay in Southern Pacific just in case Chuck tries something fancy here. My LBA power in concentrated in Luzon and Malaya. (Most in Luzon area)
More Oil TF keep reaching Japan. So, at least some raw materials are coming from Borneo.
