RE: Japanese troops arrive at Palembang

Post by Bombur »

The emperor is censoring reports. Great news for the next 24 hours

Comments:
Land based flak is deadly. I´ve already lost 160 planes to AA fire, most of the level bombers, and I´m very cautious with them. Compared with NM v5.3, where I lost 250 planes to flak (in Jun/1942) this one is far bloodier....A2A kill rate is very favorable for Japan (181 vs 21) but I´ve found very few modern fighters....

After a delay the Allies are back in action (had to change PC's, reinstall etc etc)

The KB has been spotted moving towards Kwajalean in the vicinity of Wake Island.  The Allies brace for another raid...

ALLIED COMMANDER UPDATE, FEBRUARY 17th 1942

Its true, American troops have landed at Tarawa. They are now digging in deep into the coral reefs in anticipation of a Japanese landing.  I tried to keep it a secret (didn't post any planes there) as the base starts the campaign in American hands I hoped Alexandre wouldn't notice. However despite the loss of several transports carrying precious ice cream makers and swimsuit model calendars for the troops, the infantry is still nervous and the situation on exposed Tarawa is precarious...

02/18/42

Japanese bomber G3M2 flying over Tarawa
Pilot: I don´t like these recon flights, why don´t they send the Dinahs???
Co pilot: Maybe because there are no Dinahs in Kwajalein?
Pilot: If a US fighter catch us, we will swim back to our base...
Co pilot: Or burn to death inside this flying fuel tank....
Pilot: Btw, where are the enemy ships??
Co pilot: Don´t see anyone, but just look at those huts in the beaches
Pilot: Bullshit, the enemy seem to have completed its unloading, the other Nell boyns won´t have any fun today.

ALLIED COMMANDER UPDATE, FEBRUARY 1942:

Unfortunately Bombur managed to thrash the empty AK's leftover from the Tarawa landings. However Allied command is in agreement that the loss of a dozen empty transports pales in comparison to the casualties that would have been sustained invading Tarawa in 12 months, thus the risk was worth it.  More troops digging in on Baker Island as well. Hopefully these early deployments will counter any Central Pacific move by the IJN and allow for a threat against japanese supply lines to the south.

Not much activity in Burma, British troops question their commander's decision to evacuate Rangoon and other colonial estates without a shot.  There is a movement to launch a new offensive in mid 1942 against Japanese interests in SE Asia.

More Australian troops dig in at Port Moresby and Thursday Island as well to secure the invasion route to Australia and prepare for a counterattack against Rabaul....

ALLIED COMMANDER UPDATE:

Bombur is stepping up the offensive and its getting more dangerous for Allied convoys to try and land reinforcements on the front lines.  But Port Moresby and Tarawa and Wake are secure, and American troops in California are planning offensives against various Japanese islands.  The trick is to be where KB is not of course...
