60. First wargame was AH Gettysbury, then Tactics II. People should not be surprised about high average age. The baby boom generation was largest in history of US, and we started modern wargaming on a large scale, so it stands to reason that we went from board to computer games. Also, AT is very reminiscent of the AH, SPI type games so its popularity among older gamers makes sense too.
And don't think that this kind of classic wargaming will die out due to real-time and sims and shooting gallery crap. Tastes change with age. As some of the kids playing these fast as you can bang bang you're dead games get older, learn about history and learn that mental problem solving is more pleasurable than hand-eycordination, they will switch to Matrix type games.
And here'e too the young ones on this forum who are already mature enough to know this!

but, us folks down here in Texas . . .
As I understand it, this part of the country is actually called South Oklahoma.
Also, had a friend from Dallas who would say "You can tell a Texan a mile away. Get up close, and you can't tell a Texan a damn thing"!
Could this be true?

Hiya... new here...
I'm 42, from Indiana, USA.
With regard to younger gamers... I have a 14 year old son that plays many of my wargames with me (both computer and miniatures games). He is a big fan of the Civilization and Empire Earth games too. The biggest drawback for him is the learning curve of many computer wargames. He's just now learning AT (the random scenario generator is great for that) but I also have Battlefront, TOAWIII and World at War. Of these three, World at War is the only one he plays, the other two being a bit difficult for him to pick up. He COULD learn them, it's true, but the time involved is more than he's willing to spend.
After all, I have about 30 years worth of experience in wargaming, he doesn't, so it's much easier for me to pick up concepts than him.

It's a shame Saedor there aren't more simple and easy wargames for the youth to get into these days on the computer. It seems they made most of the good ones in the early and mid 80's. Today it's about complexity and details and 100 weeks of gameplay just to play one game out. You might try to find him a copy of Hasbros Axis and Allies to try out and Stratego computer game is quite fun still. Even Battleship is still fun. As many years as I have into wargaming I still don't like the more complex and monster type wargames coming out. Oh Carriers at War should be easy for him to get into and play. Have you introduced him to the Combat Mission series. Even my son will play that one with me and just scoffs at most of the rest of these advanced wargames. He loves Master of Magic, but, I can't get him to play anything but the easy difficulty. He likes making all those neat items and going around stomping everything in his path. He doesn't like challenge as much as I do, shame really. Even though I like simple to play wargames I still want them to be challenging and at least appear like they might win against me. You could also get him to try out Killerbees new versions of The Perfect General and Empire Deluxe. These are very simple easy games to get into. Just point click attack and move with a bit of opportunity fire and pre-fire phases. Not hard at all I don't think, but, a lot of fun to play for the young I would say.

Well it has been said often down here in Texas that the only reason Texas is still part of the US is because Oklahoma sucks.

We act like were southern, and think we are Yankee's.
Those of us who were born here anyway, not the 40% of the population who moved in from California.
Not sure what they are yet.
