I see similar things on other forums be they photography, games, computers.

So I look to see how many previous comments a new thread writer has - there are so many bait type new threads that waste a lot of time of people who write often long helpful answers.

How about a new member cannot originate a new topic until 10, 20 answers on other threads?

To me it signals that there is no interest for this forum from Matrix. :(

What does and doesn't get quickly moderated around here is often surprising.

I hope not but I kinda wonder if it isn't indicative of the way things are headed in general. Most web forums seem to be going the way of the dinosaur, outside of a few larger holdouts like Something Awful. Social media platforms have dominated for a while now. Seems like the choices are increasingly Discord, Reddit, or screaming into the void of Twitter/X. I've tried Discord but the stream-of-consciousness style there is something I often find annoying. It also seems like a place where documentation and useful info go to hide in a walled garden.

as always the best advice it to report everything and then wait and not comment on the spam page itself, then less work for staff to remove etc, and everyone needs a break, happy new year everyone :ugeek:

Hence this spam thread.

What would be nice if there were filters on posts, especially for brand new users . . .

It's something we're talking about right now. It's hard to prevent actual people from bypassing our restrictions, but we'll always keep trying!

Yes, thank you.

I reported one this morning and it was taken down very quickly.

A question for you.

Is there a way that your filters can block certain IP and MAC addresses? If it is the same people posting from a certain area and using pretty much the same computers, that might help to stop the spam. Forwarding information to any Powers That Be who might be able to use legal methods to stop the spam would be helpful. Especially when they post pornographic pictures, it would be nice for them to face legal consequences and have a judge then tell them that they should not do things like that again.

We can block IPs etc, but unfortunately that is a very blunt tool, and easily bypassed.
