I had heard that Bioshock was the descendant of Sys Shock. Sys Shock was _SOO_ good, so engrossing. I think I must holdoff on trying Bioshock for awhile. Although I do now have a bad-arse desktop with a really big HD, fast chip, and whizbang video card that could probably handle it. I'm so afflicted with procrastination, I till haven't really installed anything on that machine to take advantage of my big screen TV and new desktop! Now that is pathetic! When you are such a procrastinator that you cannot even be bothered to install games on a bitchin' new system!?

Getting back to the mentioned Bioshock, i've read that the core group that was Irrational games was responsbile for that piece and it's considered the true successor to SS2. It certainly was the most interesting shooter i've played in years.....better than Fallout 3 with a great and unique setting and storyline to go with it. I stil hope that someday there'll be a SS3

Hey Nik,

I'm playing Fallout 3 (for about my 4th run through) and am really enjoying it. Is the storyline in Bioshock fairly linear, or is it free-roam like Fallout? I'm looking for something as intense as Fallout (for when burnout sets in), but I'm not in it for just a FPS. I like to build and RP my character like you can in Fallout (and Oblivion).

good policy. I didn't even consider getting the latest shooters until i built my first machine as a sort of "graduation" exercise. ( I certainly wasn't going to pay Alienware 4-7 grand to get the quad core system i lusted after)

Bioshock will be worth the wait once upgrade your rig, and bonus...it'll be like $19.99 by then too [:'(] Just don't make the mistake i made and play it too quickly...i was so bummed when it ended.....that and play it at night with the lights out! [:D]

The only part that was semi-lame was the ending which was your typical boss screen type affair. Can't really blame the designers i suppose. There are only so many varations one can play on that theme....but i will say that there's a hidden twist in the plot that will surprise you if you can resist the temptation to read ahead on one of the spoiler websites.

There were a lot of puzzles in Sys Shock; most of which I figured out on my own. But I admit, in one or two instances I was stuck for so long--days or weeks--I went online to get the solution.

Bioshock's plot isn't nearly as free roamer as Fallout 3, but the plot twists and colorful background on a crazy underwater Art Decco type setting more than makes up for it. Fallout3 got a little mundane for me due to the mostly same scene grayed out scenery....especially when inside a building. (which all looked the same.....post nuclear decay'd mess)

I'm trying to play through it a 2nd time myself because stupid me once more managed to go straight through the primary plot in less than 20 hours of play time. The ending there was worse. You want me to do what??!!!!!! I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't played it yet. I even missed the town of Megaton first time out. The wrecked carrier turned city (naturally!) was interesting. I was running all around that one like a kid on a memorial warship visit.

I'm finding Farcry 2 a real snore. I can't get into it. I guess being a mercenary in a Somolia type country with Malaria is just too mundane for me.

FEAR 2 was a real disapointment as well. Better graphics, same schtick......not a tenth as scary as the original.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned "Red Orchestra" It is the only shooter out for WWII fanboys. Not a Quakefest but calls for serious group tactics on the Eastern front. You can also drive a tank with up to three crew members, man a MG42 and have to change out the barrel before you burn it up, or just use the bayonet, and there are two amazing mods out that take it to North Africa and the Western front. All the balistics are real. Trouble is, the maker Tripwire never got the promotion out and most shooterboys play the horrible "Call of Doodie".  Actually has been a boon for Red Orchestra. A small but serious adult community with no cheaters and hackers. PC only-not made for the console which has limited the number of kiddies and morons playing. Check it out. They frequently offer it for ten bucks on steam.

Like John, I love the HPS Civil War series. Just got Musket and Pike which is based on the same engine. It is very good.

Still love to put Diablo II into the machine and play solitare. A classic

IL2 is almost ten years old and is still the king of flight sims. Where else can you fly an IAR 80?

Company of Heros is a fun diversion.

And Combat Mission Afrika Korps. I still play that by email. Wish they would update it. Still a hell of a game.

Get the latest Diablo II patch and you don't even need the CD anymore; much better for quick dungeon strolls

PTO 2 for SNES and Civil War Generals 2 are all time favs...

All sports games, COD 3, Civ Rev, and any good time consuming empire building game that actually takes planning and good thought process... haven't really found one yet.  Very excited about Hearts of Iron 3..  I grew up on the Super NES, so I still play that very often, and all the odd number of games I have for it.

I play too many games for very short times... I like games I can accumulate statistics and pick right back up where I left off...

Life is tough. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be.

What server do you play Red Orchestra on? 99% of the servers are automatic spam fests on Danzig or that one tank battle map Arasop or something (can't remember exact name). And all of those range from laggy to very laggy, making it no fun to play.

Gotta ask, does flying the IAR 80 feel like flying a Corsair in 1941 to you too? They feel very similar, but I love them both.

I really just look for the best ping and then pick. I skip the 24/7 Arad and Danzig maps. Actually, some of the best games are in the middle of the day when the European servers are active. Coupla, good German servers if you don't lag. If you see me my name is Stigmata and I like to man MGs. Have not played in about a month though.

Also like Darkest Hour. Incredible body of work. Best mod that nobody plays. Usually it is the 29th Div public server for that.

Can't comment about the corsair as I have only flown it rarely. I really like to try out the rare planes that you will never seen in another sim. Macchi, gladiator, PE2, brewster buffalo-man, it just goes on and on. Never played it on line though. Probably would get creamed.

Well i forgot about Resident Evil 1 , 2 , 3 those were the best survival horrors i played[:D] My brother owned a playstation and i remeber that once when everybody was asleep i turn it on on the kitchen TV:) put headphones on my head and played RE III for the first time i was kind of scared whan a big ugly fellow was trying to chase you down through out the game[:D][:D][:D] When i let my friend RE I during the day he feel of the chair just as the game started when some doggies jumped in through the windows[:D]

As for Bioshock i played it and didn't like it... game was to boring for me[:D] but the original SS2 was great i never completed it but i played it a lot[:D]

As for running old games on XP all of those XP's have a missing file that is responsible for the memory stuff when i downloaded it all games started to run great[:D]
