The Spanish campaign and relief operation of the US has turned into a quite static affair while the German still enjoys free reign in Russia.

Leningrad will be the first large Soviet city directly threaten by the Germans. It will be defended as well as we can do it given our current maximum unit quality. But we will not get our tanks trapped within Leningrad. There was a small success in Spain as we could take our a strong German tank units with heavy air support. The Allies are still looking for ways to get the British more directly involved in addition to the strategic air campaign. It looks as if the US attack on Spain was not yet able to tip the scales.

The war is now three years old and the Russians are still with the back to the wall while the American attack in Spain makes some progress but is not decisive at all. The next big goal for the Allies is to reopen Gibraltar.

It looks worse and worse for Russia and we hope we can use the coming winter to stabilize the situation somewhat.
The Americans are about to free Gibraltar and this will instill new life into any Allied Mediterranean activities.

The fall of Gibraltar allows for more flexibility in the Western Allied approach. That is very soon necessary since the situation in Russia is dire indeed.

There are no glorious sweeping victories won in Spain by the Americans. Instead every hex occupied is very hard labor. We loose ground much faster in Russia than we can win it in Spain.

The Russians move their main axis of attack away from Leningrad that they just seal off for the time being. In Spain the US tries to keep the pressure on and the UK raiding campaign in the Med. has not yet been fully successful. We just destroyed a handful of STPs but nothing major. We hope to ideally kill a larger convoy at the same time a "Malta supply" event fires. That would be pure luck of course but could end the dead lock in the desert.

The strong Axis attack units move towards the central section of the Russian front. Moscow is most likely on top of their wish list. Given the current situation, this is not an unrealistic goal.

The German army is this year completely unaffected by the Russian winter. They are at full strength and plow east. We very much needed the few month rest the the cold weather usually provides and did not realize that the winter event is apparently optional. The US progress in Spain is slow and the UK raiders in the Med are not very effective yet.

Still no sign of winter in Russia, the weather must be fickle. We take another Spanish supply source in the south and there is finally movement in the desert.

A quiet turn in Russia but there is movement in the desert and expensive progress (in terms of PPs) in Spain.

The situation in Russia is getting quite scary (and still no visible winter effects, soon it will be spring time). Our limited successes in Spain and the desert must not distract the Axis all that much.

The Germans are very close to Moscow now and Russian tanks try desperately to stem the flood. But there are simply too many German units by now and wherever we chose to attack we will be encircled in the long run unless we withdraw immediately thereafter. This turn the news coming from Spain is unencouraging, too as we loose an important unit. Some success in the desert is consoling but this theater is not that important.

There is little we can do head on in the Madrid area. So we try our luck at the flanks. Moscow get's ready for its defense. It has no natural features that help much. But we make good progress in the desert and see little danger from the Persian attack in the Caucasus.

The Russians make a last stance a few miles west of Moscow. The American relief attack in Spain did not fulfill its promise and Comrade Stalin sends distressed diplomatic notes to Washington. The UK has now a way to transfer aircraft from the British Isles to the desert where they are needed to break the final lines and to help sieges.

We are fighting the Axis in many theaters and the outcome of the game is wide open (at least we hope it still is wide open as the USSR is looking very weak).

The battle for Moscow heats up while the battle for Madrid cools down. That sums it all up. That we can now most likely win the desert campaign changes only little in the big picture.

Comrade Stalin orders Moscow to be evacuated by key political leaders just after honoring the heroes of the Red Army tank corps that defended the city with their life.
