18th UK Division arrives next turn. I've decided to send it to the DEI. Maybe it can get down there before the roof caves in, maybe not. If it does get there in time, it'll be a lot more useful there, than square bashing back in Injah.

Malaya - Singapore

There's an argument for evacuating aircraft from Singapore back to India. I'm not going to do it. If they stay here they continue to shoot down Japanese planes and ding Jap ships. If they go to India, they polish propellers or whatever. Case closed.

Dutch East Indies

Since I'm bringing troops into the DEI, I think I'll stop taking supplies out from Java. There are more supplies and fuel coming down from India. Maybe I'll keep some of it here, maybe I'll send it to PM, maybe I'll send it to OZ. Dunno.

Tankers are queued up at Palembang and Balikpapan loading oil. This goes to Sydney via Perth.

Great read....one question...can WITP be played as Japanese vs the AI as well? Or just Allies vs AI?

Good Hunting.

Yes it can, but the Allied AI is somewhat dumber than the Japanese AI IIRC, and falls apart pretty quickly.

Your lads put up an impressively long fight, though. Any plans for long-range bombing to keep the Betties from dominating the area?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Yeah! That's going to be the name of the game. Here's the plan:

1 - Put garrison troops at PM and GG - Done

2 - Station a fighter group at PM and GG: The 54th FG has just arrived at Cairns and will fly up to PM next turn. 55th FG is expected to arrive in the next few turns, and will go to GG.

3 - Bring in engineers to expand airbases and build fortifications: 808th EAB has just arrived at Cairns and will go to GG. An engineer regt is on the way down from the WC, and will go to PM.

4 - Bring down enough aviation support to support 250 aircraft at each base: 2 aviation regiments have just arrived at SF, and and will be on their way next turn.

5 - Once bases have been expanded to levels 5-6, and support is in place, then I'll start bringing heavy bombardment groups down. Right now I'm thinking of ending up with about 100 bombers and maybe 150 fighters at each base.

That's the plan. I understand that all plans work until the first shot is fired, so we'll see.

San Francisco

Yesterday I would have had trouble finding an empty rowboat. Today, I have ships up the wazoo. Not only that, I have all sorts of new units that are needed everywhere. The Longshoreman's Union is notified that OT is available.

The following units will start loading immediately:

35th Fighter Group. This group is already assigned to  SWPAC, and will go to PM
51st Aviation Regiment, also assigned to SWPAC, will go to PM
111th Aviation Regt will be assigned to SWPAC and go to GG

Part of the aviation support needed by aircraft at PH is now being provided by 4 AVDs. 71st Base Force will proceed to PH. When it arrives, the four AVDs will be sent to SWPAC. The 71st is already assigned to CENPAC, so no PPs are needed.

Time for some serious resupply of Australia:

TF 1086, consisting of 25 AKs and 5 escorts, will proceed to Los Angeles. Upon arrival, it will load supplies and then proceed to Pago-Pago

TF 1088, consisting of 25TKs and 5 escorts, will proceed to Los Angeles, load fuel, and then proceed to Pago Pago.

TF 1089, 25AKs and 5 escorts, will load supplies at SF, and transport them to Pago Pago.
TF 1090, 25TKs and 5 escorts, will load fuel at SF and transport it to Pago Pago.

The Japanese have taken Balikpapan, and are poised to take Kendari. The bad news is that I can
no longer conduct the Great Batavian Bugout. The good news is that almost all of the shipping in the DEI isn't in the DEI. They have all gone to Port Moresby and points east. The bugees have bugged.

Java Troop Dispositions
Image
Not shown is 16th Indian Brigade at Palembang. There are now the equivalent of 3 full divisions on Java. They are well supplied, digging in, and should be able to give the Nips a warm welcome to Java.

The big problem, of course, is that the Japanese control the skies, and there isn't much the Allies can do about it. I am going to try to shuttle in VMF-211, and whatever else I  can spare, but I don't know how that will work out.

It looks like the fat lady is getting ready to sing. One more shock attack and the game is probably over. Drinks at Raffles tonight, POW cage tomorrow!

Aircraft have done all they can here, so they go to the DEI.

Headquarters, US Submarine Force Pacific

In late December, Commander Tyrell Jacobs, CO of SS Sargo, signalled headquarters, questioning the reliability of the Mark 14 torpedo. He stated that, in six attacks, he had fired 13 torpedoes, and all had failed to function correctly.

Bureau of Ordinance investigated the matter, and  concluded that there was nothing wrong with the Mark 14 torpedo, and that the so-called torpedo failures were probably due to improper maintenance, or sloppy submarine attack procedures.
