RE: Fabertong vs Speedy II - This time it's Personal
Dec 23rd and 24th, 1941.......
Manila is mine......or to be more accurate....Speedy left Manila to me..........
He has gathered at CF.......I'll wait for the 4th Inf. Div to come up.....3 days....and then to Southern forces will advance to CF.......followed by the much weaker Northern forces....
Speedy's subs sank 4 subs on the 24th........curses.......and I lost another 14 LRB due to coordination issues........
Lost an I-boat ...who hit a mine off Batavia......
My invasion forces off Kuching....are to hold for three turns and wait for Another Div to arrive.......and then I'll decide about Mersing vs Java........With all the great feedback....I'm leaning towards Java......as I suspect Steven will 'bug out' to Singers as soon as his other forces from the North arrive...
Two waves of Nells......9 each attacked allied cruisers off Port Moresby.......no hits.......curses...the leader is good and the pilots very good........anyway they will now stand down due to high fatigue........and the CAs will escape.......but the PM Invasion forces are but 4 days out..........with 'rump KB'.....
Building up the Kendari Invasion........10 days.........

How did he manage that, all in sub-on-sub attacks seems like an awfull lot. ?

Yes, there is no reason for him to setup a defense at Malacca for any reason other than to keep the coast road clear of your Khota Baru forces until he can extract his maggots from up north. This is one reason I'm pondering very seriously making a strong push with 5div (or is it 18div?) plus two tank units very early from Khota Baru. With shock attacks and appropriate Reserve pursuit by the tank units, I think the small forces at Khota can be destroyed and Malacca taken before major forces get to Singers.

Sorry Smeulders.....it's a typo.....not uncommon for individuals with flippers......it's meant to say ' 4 ships'......ORIGINAL: Smeulders

To get both railines in Malaya open as early as poss.....is, I think, a priority......your plan looks sound.......I have loads of troops at Singora loaded on trains waiting to go........and Mersing is the best place to unload....if I have it.ORIGINAL: Mynok

Obviously I don't mean Mersing.......but the base to the west where the two railines meet.....stupid penguin.[8|]
RE: Fabertong vs Speedy II - This time it's Personal
Right...Malacca. But head down through Khota Baru, not the west coast road. If you get a bunch of troops to Malacca, you will at least keep anything still north of there out of Singers. But it might be a bit late to get there in time.

I've been thinking, Brother Faber: can't you get a minion (with hands) to type things for you? An evil, be-feathered genius such as yourself must have minions, no?

For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

Bump.
Because I gave a bump to Speedy's AAR. And because I'm afraid of flying penguins armed with Japanese torpedoes.

HI ckammp...............thanks for the bump.....and yes, you should be afraid.........
There has been a bit of a lull during the festive season........and I'm waiting for Speedy to return to the fight......
The next turn will be the end of 1941.....and I'll do a comprehensive update then..........with maps......and the odd shamefaced admission.....

1st Jan 1942.........
and so we wave goodbye to 1941........
Kandari has fallen.......
PM has not.....but I think will in 4-5 turns......troops resting this turn after removing a fort lvl ......
I also lost 4 ships to Speedy's subs this turn....all AKs........Japanese airgroups really have no idea when it comes to ASW.....so much training underway.....
I think Steven has had the best of the first (short) month.........I've lost more ships than I should have.....although apart from a CL...3 fast APs and a AMC.....no important losses....well in AE....they are all important.....it's really the volumn of the losses that hurt.
My air losses too have been scandalous......and much to my shame I now post them below.

I've never been much for trying to coordinate attacks from multiple bases. Makes me more vulnerable to the heavies of course, but that seems much reduced in AE.

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy II - This time it's Personal
Jan 2nd 1942.......
Day two of the landings at Merak.......and some unwelcome guests arrive........the Allied CLs Dragon and Mauritius with a mixed bag of 8 DDs as escort....SAG 5 was on station.....the BBs Mutsu and Fuso.....and a 4DD escort......
The allies shooting was very good.......but sadly....for them.....the 6 inch guns of the CLs failed to achieve any penatrating hits on the BBs........and at last after much shooting and missing.......the big guns sank both CLs.....and also a DD.......one of my DDs was badly damaged.......
Alas....as SAG 5 moved away.....Mutsu was hit by a single torp from SS 016....she now has 37 major flt damage and is a long way from safety.......bugger......
The Allies threw wave after wave of aircraft at the Merak beachhead and sank the DD Kamakaze and damaged 2 AKs.........but Merak fell.......and the Zuiho AAG will now move away...to leave the transports covered by a small A6M2 group (9 planes)......
Hong Kong industry was bombed....this is in keeping with Speedy's 'Torched Earth' strategy......having bombed every allied city I capture........I don't think the people of HK, Manila etc will thank him.
Temuloh fell....
Mergui fell.....
Georgetown fell......
Port Moresby fell...... now my TFs in the Sols. will gather and see if we have the strength to push on to Nomea...

Jan 3rd 1942..................
Most of the action today was around Java.......as the Merak Invasion TFs were again under heavy air attack.......Speedy has moved some Vildebeest/Swordfish in.....and I lost 5 ships to these today....as the sheer volumn of air-stikes......meant my Zeros failed to cope.......they did shoot down some Dutch bombers....
Here is Java

Jan 4th 1942.....
I lost another 5 ships on the way out of Merak......to Swordfish/Vildy's......and lost I-162 to a mine hit off Batavia.......my troops are ashore and on the move.......will add some more supply and air support in 5-6 days.....and I suspect that will cost me a few ships as well.......war is a costly affair.....
Other than a few Dutch planes falling from the sky......while trying to Bomb Merak.......a quiet day in the war.....
