Turn 13 - May 31st 1965 to June 6th 1965

Turn 13 opens with Ba Gia under attack, Duc Co still in enemy hands and Phu Loc under attack. The NVA and VC are stepping up their attacks all over the country. There are no missions this turn but the ARVN are continuing an operation to relieve Ba Gia Operation Tu Loc 150. On June 1st of this turn 2 Marine A-1 Skyhawk squadrons land at Chu Lai Airfield north of Ba Gia. The Chu Lai airfield is a short airfield for tactical support (SATS) which is in effect an "aircraft carrier" on land, complete with catapult (from 1967 on) and arresting wires. Built by laying some 4000 feet of aluminum matting runways on highly unstable, sandy soil, Chu Lai was built in 24 days. Also on June 5th officials in Saigon have reported that after a two month lull, main force Viet Cong units have returned to the battlefield in increasing numbers since early May. Here's the news summary for turn 13.

Turn 15 - Retaking Dong Xoai CIDG Camp

Post by comte »

The Battle for Dong Xoai CIDG Camp

To Relieve the Dong Xoai CIDG camp that was overrun by a Viet Cong Regiment the ARVN have helilifted the 30th Ranger Battalion, the 6th Airborne Battalion, the 2nd Battalion 7th Infantry, and the 3rd Battalion 7th Infantry to combat assault the camp. A Fire support base (FSB) is set up south of the overrun camp at a site that is secured by the ARVN 1st Battalion 8th Infantry. The ARVN 5th Cavalry Squadron repairs the road to the camp plus provides road security to the camp ensuring that supplies and ammo reach ARVN forces there without VC interference. US airforce B-52 Squadrons operating off of Guam bombard the VC forces in the area as they begin the first Arc-Light raids of the war. The VC force holding Dong Xoai is completely destroyed by the overwhelming superior firepower that is brought to bear on them. Sadly the weakened CIDG Detachment A-342 is destroyed in the battle to retake Dong Xoai by the retreating Viet Cong forces. This concludes turn 15.
