Some nice use of your surface forces early in the game. Just putting a little caution on your opponent is a good thing. Houston and Boise have such pitiful AA at the beginning of the war that if they are ever caught by bombers, it is hard to save them. Yet, I feel that they need to be used like you have used them.

Viperpol and I just finished our four year long game (Aug 1, 1945) and have just started up a Babe game.

crsutton: Hello! All things considered I'am pretty happy what I have managed to done considering all things. I was planning abit diffrent defensive approach but one must adopt the views when things get rolling forward.

Yup! The upgrades sure do increase the AA values for the ships in DaBabes scenarios. It will one hell of an ride for any torpedo bombers soon.

Also definately concur that you cannot just hide on first few months... you roll the dice and hope for the best. I have ship losses in numbers but happy with the types of ships that are gone. The most important ones are ok and battle ready.

Congrats! Did the enemy throw the white towel in the first PBEM? I remember you had some tough times just like I was having...

April 22nd - 26th 1942

The defenders of Manila have their faith sealed on April 24th. All of the naval and air bombings made their life pretty miserable.

Having said that these troops held off the enemy longer than expected and tied down a lot of enemy firepower. Even my opponent said that this capture took a full month longer than expected.

Now the Philippine campaign is all but over. He still has some mopping up to do though in the surrounding islands.

In Burma japanese troops have taken Rangoon and Toungoo pretty much without an fight. That terrain and circumstances just was not worth my time. The spearhead is now moving towards nothern Burma.

In Java the enemy troops continue their march towards Batavia and this advance is supported by enemy carriers. The city of Bandoeng is last to fall on list of captured bases.

Nothing major to report from China and to be honest he has made this campaign that much harder for himself if he expects to sweep through the country. Chinese are ready and eager to duel it out here.

I have been busy upgrading my ships and troops and things are looking up for sure.

We had a great game with Ark throwing in the towel the day the Soviets activated. I can understand why as he simply had nothing left. No oil, no fuel, no supplies, no HI. The game said I won but I give it a draw as I really was no further along than the Allies were historically. It was a great fight and we both learned a lot and are more skilled going into our second fight.
I wonder why there is a star on that Japanese tank?

crsutton: Ok. The Soviet part is actually pretty intresting when playing allied side. Lets hope you get to play those toys in your new game.

I have always said that the points are just points and the thing is the journey.

As for the the picture.. to be honest I have no clue. Maybe a captured tank?

April 27th - May 17th 1942

The battle of Batavia has now begun. Japanese planes are flying from Palembang region and it seems that same situation as it was with Manila.

There are currently 10 enemy units sieging the city but no ground assaults are reported yet.

In Burma japanese forces have now occupied Mandalay and whether they actually make the river crossing towards Schwebo remains to be seen.

In southern areas of the pacific the invasion of Lae has just begun so it seems that he has some intrest here albeit the Rabaul has not been build up much.

China remains quiet but there are some signs of activity here. Whether this means full scale offensive remains to be seen.

The allied submarines have been busy launching torpedoes. The bad thing is that they do not anything. Quite a few tankers have evaded series of torpedoes.

There has not been any signs of japanese carriers. Either they are refitting / upgrading or they are preparing for something else.

May 18th - 29th 1942

The daily bombing campaign againts Batavia continues but no ground assaults are launched yet.

Allied signit indicates that troop reinforcements are on their way towards Java from Luzon.

Japanese troops continue to seize the last bastions around Philippines. Cebu and Tacloban are both overrun.

At Burma the japanese did cross the river at Schwebo but the initial assault was repulsed.

I have committed couple of LBA bomber squadrons to harash these intruders.

Allied submarines finally got few hits after abysmal showing in this month. (xAK Toyu Maru near Saishu To and TK Huzisan Maru near Iba)

Batavia continues to receive daily bomber runs but no ground assaults are made by the japanese forces.

At Schwebo allied troops held the base after yet another offensive here. Now, wondering whether to move a bit further up north to gain more favorable terrain.

There has not been any signs of enemy carriers. Nor by allied signit reports or patrol planes.

Allied submarine total for past week or so: xAP Ural Maru (Near Teambelan-eilanden) ...not much luck as you can see but at least that ship was carrying troops.

Elsewhere it has been pretty peaceful as one can expect considering the date. This however does not mean that things are "quiet"...

June 11th - July 1st 1942

We have been grinding turns in past few days and the game has now entered july 1942.

The crueling bombardments (Naval and air) have continued at Batavia. No less than 8 enemy battleships are spotted in the area.

Despite all of this the first ground assault failed and resulted to an bloody mess for both sides. Well.. these troops are going out guns blazing.

I almost got lucky since CVE Taiyo (pic) got torpedoed near Tokara Retto by SS Gar. Touche that only one of the four torpedoes launched hit the target!

The ship is shown sunk but I highly doubt that to be true.

The submarines have been busy launching torpedoes just wish they actually started to hit their targets. Numerous tankers have just slipped through the 4 torpedo barrage.

Ships "sunk" in past weeks by the submarines fleet: xAK Terukawa Maru, xAK Taketoyo Maru, PB Narita Maru and xAK Hukuyo Maru.

In Burma allied troops moved out of Schwebo in good order. After considering all the aspects the base was not worth the effort required.

Southern China seems to have something brewing. There are enemy units in the forests near the railways there. Measures have been ordered to deal with this issue.

First off HAPPY NEW YEAR to all! Hopefully it will be an good 2014 coming up!

July 2nd - July 10th 1942

The last few turns have been quite bloody affairs.

Japanese have launched two ground assaults againts Batavia with overwhelming force but both offensives were repulsed.

Both enemy strikes were heavily supported by air and naval assets.

Quite pleased how long I have held his forces in DEI region. Well, actually very happy.

The allied submarine fleet should be ordered to push the periscope up since not many enemy vessels spotted. At least we are saving precious torpedoes.

In China things are definately heating up a lot! I commented that I spotted enemy movement in southern China and sure enough there were severeal IJA divisions moving around.

The things begun with enemy crossing the river west of Hengyang IJA 13th, 60th, 39th, 36th, 41st divisions supported 15th Ind.Mixed brigade crushed the 21st Chinese Corps defending the beach.

These divisions have now moved towards Hengyang and ground battle should be raging soon enough.

The goods news came also here when IJA 3rd ordered division committed seppuku moving directly into Hengyang. The whole divisions is all but wiped out.

My opponent commented that he had not ordered this crossing and rest is history. Now it is time to take gloves off here and fight to the last man....

July 11th - 26th 1942

The "Alamo" at Batavia is finally over. The last remaining defenders surrendered on 23rd of July. These troops really put up an good fight!

In China an full scale offensive seems to be on it's way. Several ground units spotted around central China region.

Near Changhsa IJA 116th/A Division gets routed and pushed back.

At Hengyang IJA 58th Infantry Regiment crosses the river and troops gets butchered.

Allied LBA bombers are moved into region to provide firepower againts these assaults. No doubt that the China affiar will pick up even more pace...

The submarine SS 021 lauches 6 torpedoes towards BB Nagato (pic). Touche that only 1 are reported to hit the target. This encounter happened near Toboali.

July 27th - August 13th 1942

Japanese continue to mop up minor bases around DEI, Philippines and Southern Pacific.

Allied submarines have been busy firing torpedoes with minimal amount of hits reported. The highlight definately being CL Kuma being hit near Torishima.

In China the stalemate continues around Hengyang. Both sides flying in bomber raids but no ground assaults being reported.

Around the map allied reinforcements pour in and new fresh troops are ready for action.

August 14th - 23rd 1942

Japanese submarines hit a couple of allied tankers near San Francisco. Thus I need to improve the ASW efforts there.

Allied submarines continue their torpedo barrage campaign with pretty no hits reported.

Btw, what is the minium port size etc required to have ability to rearm tordoes for subs?

Chinese troops launch counter offensives near Ichang.

The operation is succesfull. The IJA 34th Division & 13th RGC Temp Division are routed and forced to retreat.

Elsewhere things remain somewhat "peaceful"...

August 24th - September 13th 1942

Intresting days to say at least. I can now confirm that the main offensive in central china seems to be coming through Hengyang sector.

This armoured advance is supported by large scale LBA bomber groupings. After considering my options I have decieded to move out from Hengyang in good order. There is no sense to fight in his terms.

Well.. you would think this is all the big news. Well.. guess again since nothing less than Hawaji is under assault.

In early september I spotted some transports and carriers heading east. These ships arrived into Johnston Island and managed to seize the base.

Now.. next turn still showed movement towards east and well it seems japanese forces are trying to invade Hawaji. Yes.. there are landings reported near Kona.

I usually post some old WW2 pics but this time around it is more proper to take an screenshot from the game itself.

Here are some glimpses from After action Report from 11th - 12th Sep 1942...

I can confirm that the following IJN carriers are conducting operations: Hosho, Soryu, Akagi, Kaga, Shokaku, Zuikaku, Ryujo, Junyo, Hiyo, Shoho, Zuiho and Hiryu.

Add the whole Japanese battleship fleet and there you have.

What will happen here... only safe bet seems a lot sunken ships and dead sailors. Whether the allied have the power to defeat IJN... I would say 50/50 odds here.

Battle of Hawaji / September 13th - 14th 1942

What a carnage in many ways. Very suprised to see this offensive in the first place but have to admit a bold move that could have succeeded!

Thus hats off to the brave emperor of Tokyo.

All hell broke loose on early part of september 13th.... best way to describe the events is a copy of AAR report.

That is how the turn played out. This definately was an massacre.

I have not done the turn yet but all of the allied carriers are at least semi-operational.

My opponent states that his losses have been severe.. "I have lost every carrier but 1 in the Japanese fleet".

Whether that is absolute truth well maybe. I have spotted some ships fleeing south and recon indicates at least couple of carriers there.

I might give them a chase next turn... not decieded on that yet. The sunken ships list shows just 2 carriers and 1 Battleship sunk but we all know how accurate that list can be...

Talk about allied wet dream. A Japanese invasion of Hawaii in late 42...

Thanks! I have to say that it was biggest naval battles I have witnessed in any of my PHEM games.

This time around it was a "wet dream" but no going to say that it is impossible to isolate Hawaji.

The bad thing for him was that I had bulk of my naval assets at Pearl Harbour plus a lot of LBA aircraft.

If these were operating somewhere else this time around than things could have been very diffrent... [:)]
