RE: netplay issue
There is a place to view the game record log numbers on the saved files. Both PCs need to have a file with matching game record log numbers in order to resume. Perhaps an earlier save will match on both. You may have to check the Autosave folder to find one.

To flesh out Paul's reply, ...
When you go to the restore a saved game, the panel on the far right shows the Next Entry #. That has to be the same on both computers. The program checks the scenario, player names, and the Next Entry # to make sure both players are restoring the game at the same point.

Thanks for the answers. Do all players need to save the game on their own computer in order to be able to load and continue at a later stage? It makes more sense if a "master" save (with all players name in NetPlay) is load and sends to necessary info to the other computers.

A save needs to be made on each computer. Each save is specific for the player making it (i.e., Axis versus Allied).ORIGINAL: robertl123456

At 5pm CST 2 of us will try to initiate a game. Not sure exactly what the sequence of steps to do that but we will try.

Can we assume that if things get out of sync, we can fall back to an auto-save that is in synchrony?
If so, I'll give multi-player another try, after my last abysmal failure to understand how to start a game.

RE: netplay issue
Game started fine but during the Russian first turn the bug form came up during air/naval combat rolling for search. I sent the bug form and hit continue. The game then would not continue. We tried to restore and we made sure the Entry number matched and the game number all matched. We both restored and put us in the netplay forum but no game started. We could not get our saved game to play.[&:]
Up until that point the game worked great with no hesitation.

Yes. You can go back to the autosaves and look for a game with the same entry number on both computers. If you both restore that game, you should be able to proceed.

Centuur - in my game we tried and had the same entry number and game number but it did not work. All it would do is take us to the netplay forum sign-in, which we did, and then just sit there. Was there something else we were supposed to do?

i'm in haha [&o] [&o] [&o] [&o] [&o]
so to solve the issue (thanks to the community) I registered an account at Slitherine web site. As I could not use the same name as I used to register for NetPlay I had to change my NetPlay name by opening the netPlayReg.txt file (in the default WIF folder).
Once I had the same user name on the NetPlay and on the Slitherine web site I could log in NetPlay without the error message.
An alert should be posted because I know many others have this problem.
thanks folks....
ready for Barbarossa if anyone is interested .... (very happy man here) [:D] [:D]

Also solved the issue for me, from the main WIF load screen - click on register then changed netplayreg.txt to match and seeking opo. error resolved.
RE: netplay issue
What is exactly the correct procedure to start a saved netplay game?
Besides having the exact same entry number, where should you look for those saves, does it matter?
Should the German player only look under Axis saves and vice versa for the allies or should both look under general auto saves? Bommerrang and I searched and we could only find two matching saves, one was in his and mine allied saved folder and the other was in general saves I believe. Like he said neither one loaded the saved game, both told us to login to netplay and then did nothing.
Would like to know and make sure its not operator error.
Thanks!

RE: netplay issue
It is best to do a 'manual' save from time to time after checking that the Next Entry # is the same on both computers. The Help menu item "About Current Game" provides that information. Always relying on autosaves for NetPlay games is somewhat risky.ORIGINAL: hattrick1

If you could provide more specifics (e.g., file names with full path names), I might be able to help more.

Ok, good advice.. It will certainly make it easier to find the correct matching files.
File name is- Choose Action - USSR.GAM
File path C:\MatrixGames\World In Flames\Scenarios\Barbarossa\Saved Games\Autosave\Allied
Thanks.
RE: netplay issue
Will someone please help hattrick1 and myself restore a saved netplay game properly. We save manually and cannot figure out how to restore back.
We need step by step instructions; detailed instructions on how to do it.
We have the same version, game number, and Next entry.
We restore and all it does is put both of us into the netplayforum and just sits there.

Wish I knew how to start one. I was in control of my PC and the remote PC, different product keys, and could not for the life of me figure out how to start the game, even looking at both screens.

1. Both of you launch the game file.
2. Both of you will be taken to the NetPlay site.
3. Both of you log-in.
4. After a short pause, whoever logged in second should get a pop-up that says the other is there.
5. That person clicks "OK" on the pop-up.
6. Both PCs start loading the game.
Could it be only one of you is launching the game file (or neither of you)?

This is exactly how we have been doing it. The only thing I can think of is, we are not waiting long enough for the program to recognize both players. We usually exit 45 seconds to a minute and half before exiting. How long does it take?
We will try again... Thanks.

RE: netplay issue
I would think a minute and a half is plenty, but if this is what you are doing then try waiting longer. It would be interesting (I guess) to know if there's a difference between my two PCs on my home router and your two on different subnets.

RE: netplay issue
Is netplay working? I'm still in the clueless newbie stage and haven't got to the point I could play a human, but I hope I can get there by Christmas.

RE: netplay issue
