Are there any benefits of attacking USSR before they join the allies? In my opinion there should be an event similar to the "soviet winter" event because of the unexpected attack. like all USSR units close to the frontline take some damage or lose some effectiveness/morale because of the sudden invasion and the panic that ensues.

What you suggest is already part of the game.

quote strategy guide (manual folder):

When the USSR joins the Allies, much of her armed forces will automatically deploy along
the western frontier.
Exact deployment location will depend on whether the USSR invades Eastern Poland, on
Germany honouring the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, and if Germany annexes Lithuania.
All land and air units will be at strength 7 representing their relative lack of preparedness.

And the reason why to attack the USSR early can be found there also:

Operation Barbarossa
By the late spring or early summer of 1941, initial preparations should be in place for
Barbarossa - the codename for the Axis invasion of the USSR. Encirclements, successive
victories, and rapid drives on Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad will be vital before the
Soviets are able to regroup and reorganize their seemingly limitless defense forces.
Scorched earth, supply problems, harsh weather, partisans, the transfer of Soviet troops
from Siberia, and the eventual entry of the USA will make a quick victory all the more
difficult, though not impossible.
However, delaying an invasion of the USSR into either late 1941 or even into 1942 while
you build up more forces, could be a mistake. The USSR will be preparing stronger forces
and increasing its research capabilities at the same time, while also bear in mind that the
weather in Russia is generally at its best between the 21st June and 20th September.

Hehe yea. Russia scares me in my current game. Playing with FOW on, it took me quite a while to secure the Middle East and North Africa since I declined Vichy France. Russia, seeing my weakness in Eastern Europe decided they didn't want to wait for the Germans to attack. OH man... I had to do a bit of savescumming to save my game LOL cause they just stomped the crap out of me. Was pretty awesome.

Yes, I had the same thing happen to me (although I was still fighting in the middle east as well)

It was an interesting surprise!

Something to bear in mind for my next game - although I think I'll give the allies whirl next.

How does the allies invasion of western Europe work? I've played about 5-6 games now and in every one the allies landed in france in 1943... Will the allies always invade in 1943 or is there a % chance of it happening?

Playing as Axis, in early 1943 I got victory screen, I chose to continue playing. After taking Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad I decided to stop my advance and let the Soviet AI recover. I made a line and held it for a year, and almost never attacked the soviets. Then all of a sudden, in 1944 I get message saying Soviets have surrendered... They had been building up the line nicely for a year then they surrender.. I think this need to be looked at, soviet morale needs to last longer imo, even if they have lost all these cities, or the surrender shold be a deccision event for the opposing side. I was holding the line in hopes of the AI recovering an pushing me back, instead the entire eastern front disappeared and the fighting in the west is no longer fun because of the huge numbers of troops I have available now.

Also, the allies have reached Germany on the western front so maybe the soviets could get some event that boosts their morale when that happens. And perhaps the US could get a MPP boost along with a more aggressive behaviour after the Soviets surrender. For example they could try more sea invasions around Europe at once or something.
Without the soviets in the fight the game simply gets too easy, yes it should get easier but still it would be nice if the allies in the west would still have a shot.

But tbh I would rather see USSR not surrendering at all (or atleast letting the Axis agree to it).

Btw will it be possible to cheat(in singleplayer only of course)? So for instance I could just hit enter and give the soviets a morale boost, or give myself more MPP's etc etc ? That would be a great tool to "customize" games like this. For example at this moment I would really like to give US and Britain a big boost in MPP and Morale :D

Hi

Armoured trains have a strike range of 1, so you'll need to move it closer. Rail Guns are different as they fire super heavy artillery, so they have a longer range.
