I'm showing that in a couple of posts
But, in short, the empty ones are never targeted!

Next, we need to check our aircraft loadouts:
- fighters are set without fuel tanks by default
- Bombers (level) are set to 50kg bombs without fuel tanks by default:

As I'm just implementing jubjub's ADs, I'll copy what he probably did himself:

- KG 77 was reassigned to Luftflotte 2
- StG 1, 2 & 77 were not used and set to REST on turn 1

And now, I think we are good in order to build the first AD.

Here is the first one, target (171,138) with 5 hexes area:

About AD settings, I just count the number of occupied airfields in the box and set it as the number of strike for this AD (1 strike per occupied airfield):

As recommanded by jubjub, we set 40 bombers escorted by 10 fighters for each strike.

The staging base was set at Memel (click on what was picked by the AI and change it) were we sent II/JG54 for escort

Everything else is left to auto for the AI to pick amongst Luftflotte 1 forces (138 fighters, 126 bombers)

Now, we can set the second and last AD for Luftflotte 1.

This time, we'll set 4 strikes (4 occupied airfields), each with 40 bombers and 10 escort, and keep the staging base were the AI put it at Blumenfeld:

everything looks so far exactly like jubjub's post (above) and we can start to build Luftflotte 2's ADs

First AD for Luftflotte 2; at the moment, the number of aircraft auto assigned is higher compared to jubjub's but it will reajust itself later. I also transfered SKG 210 from Luftflotte 2 to Luftflotte 4.

2nd AD with 2 only strikes; the order matter as they will be executed in this order at the same level of priority.

3rd AD with 4 airfields to strike; the number of aircraft per strike was always set at 40 (10) in all ADs so far.

4th AD is manualy assigning 40 unescorted He 111 of KG 53 to strike Baranovichi. The priority of this one is set lower (normal) than all the others.

5th and last AD for Luftflotte 2 is manually sending Bf 110s from ZG26 to strike deeper those 2 Airfields.

It's how jubjub build those ADs and I'm just rebuilding them following his instructions. Also, he explained why things are done like that if you go back to the first page of this thread to read his introduction post.

But yes, unless one has a good reason to assign manually aircraft to missions, the AI will extract more from the pooled a/c, the highest level (Luftflotten) the better.

1st AD for Luftflotte 4 is targetting 4 airfields with a staging base set at Hostynne... but Rovno AF is out of range for the escort (see green/purple hexes below):
