Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
Research your subject, often none are the same from scenario to scenario. For this scenario, we are currently using basic Tactical Battalions of 800~1000 men (~100 squads) for both sides. If you discover that there are different numbers of soldiers in your squads, or different types of weapons, you address this by using different squads, some examples are seen below.

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
Sorry but in my opinion there is a fundamental error between the number of men and the number of infantry squads inserted in the units.
The total of 800/1000 men is not all infantry but also gunsmiths, drivers, artillery, command, transmissions, engineers, etc. Now, for example, a Battalion Tactical Group of Russian motorized riflemen has on average: 10 tanks, 30 APC / ICV, 9 BTR82A reconnaissance, the rest (see attached photos) are anti-tank, self-propelled artillery, rocket artillery, sappers, anti-aircraft, health, logistics.
So in my opinion it seems excessive to me to include 100 combat teams in the units.
What do you think?
Thank you,best regards

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
If the TO&E in JB007's post is accurate, then I believe he is correct. If you think of a squad as the amount of infantry an APC/IFV carries (7 infantrymen each for BTR-80's & BMP-3's), then there should be 27 squads per bn. (the other 3 APC/IFV's are for company commanders & heavy weapons).

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
As of August 2021, Russia's defence minister stated the country had about 170 BTGs.[3] Each BTG has approximately 600–800 officers and soldiers,[4] of whom roughly 200 are infantrymen, equipped with vehicles typically including roughly 10 tanks and 40 infantry fighting vehicles

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
In the Soviet Armed Forces, a motorised rifle battalion could be mounted in either BTR armoured personnel carriers or BMP infantry fighting vehicles, with the former being more numerous into the late 1980s. Both consisted of a battalion headquarters of 12 personnel and three motorised rifle companies of 110 personnel each, along with a number of combat support units: a mortar battery consisting of eight 120mm 120-PM-43 mortars or automatic 82mm 2B9 Vasileks, an air defense platoon with nine MANPADs, either the SA-7 Grail, SA-14 Gremlin or SA-16 Gimlet, and an automatic grenade launcher platoon with six 30mm AGS-17 launchers. The BTR battalion also featured an anti-tank platoon with four AT-3 Sagger or AT-4 Spigot launchers and two 73mm SPG-9 recoilless guns; BTR units on high-readiness status sometimes had six missile launchers and three recoilless guns. Both featured the same support units as well, with a signal platoon, supply platoon, repair workshop and medical aid station. The addition of the antitank platoon meant that a BTR battalion at full strength was 525 personnel and 60 BTRs, including three command variants, while a BMP battalion consisted of 497 personnel and 45 BMPs, including three command variants.

My Note - This post from Wiki seems to indicate that the above is from the 1980's, but I like it because it is so specific.

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
It comes closest to my idea of more balanced strength.
This is my idea based on the Russian toe but beware the compositions may vary, the base is always the same then it depends on the vehicles with which it is composed according to their availability and the type of unit.
Attached other examples of toe, however all the material is searched on the web with google.
Best regards

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
Yours is more recent so it is much better. I have been using Wiki pages to check for unit to unit differences when available. More in depth research could wait til later in development as at this point we are roughing in the OOB's. However, if you want to do more of this it is welcomed and appreciated. The one I posted above is for the 423rd Guards Yampolsky Motor Rifle Regiment, but as I said earlier it is based on a 1980's TO&E.

I'm unable to locate the rules book which have major nations specifications such as, NBC, electronic levels and more. I think it was in TOAW II rules book.

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
Hello sPzAbt653,hello everybody
What about the UkraineWar v.1.2? Is it already done?
I cannot find it...
Anyway I want to help in the process of editing this SCE but I am a rookie for editing SCE, not only playing!
How can I help?
What should I learn first to be helpful?
Should I begin with the basic and the TOAW booklet?
What do you need? new Equipement Database? Maps? ??
Best regard

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
All I can say is a big thank you and wow! What a scenario. I guess since the war is ongoing, this has to be considered a development thread. Is anyone playing it? Is there an AAR(I can look for one). Anyway thanks again.
Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
Not playing yet. We're working on roughing in the OOB's and updating the Map. Then we can add a few events and post it for initial rounds of play.
Re: Ukraine 2022 - Development Thread
On 24 March, Ukrainian journalist Roman Tsimbalyuk posted a video showing Russian 37th Brigade commander Colonel Yuri Medvedev being evacuated after having been run over by his own troops due to reportedly being dissatisfied with the 50 percent casualties that the unit had suffered.
