To be a really old fart you have to go back before even Pong, to when all war games were played on cardboard with die cut pieces, or, even older, made up in your mind. I got my first copy of the first AH D-Day when I was 12 Does that mean that my proper title should be "Ancient Flatulent One" or are there those even more ancient who would make me a pretender to the title. (And I still use emoticons!)[:D]

I still have my old copy of AH's Bulge game bought in like 1970 I think for $5.00. So crude but that type of game is the origins of what we have today.

and had to repack about three boxes of the old board games - including my all time favorite board game - Wooden Ships, Iron Men." Can't tell you how many hours Sam and I spent sinking HMS and USN and, pardon me, Frog ships. The box is almost in tatters, and we still have our original computations (by pencil and paper) specs for a USN 74 for that game. EGAD!

I really like BoB (the original one), and France '40 as well.

But, I really wish Matrix would take a look at "Action Stations" by Zimm. That is an oldie goldie with horrible interfaces and graphics by today's standards which really grabbed me. The entire premise is that one commands a ship or TF in a battle with only the information available in the CIC to guide the action. No eye of God view, or any such thing, just lookout reports and primitive radar date. Got royally surprised one time by finding myself commanding USS Washington trying to flank a smoke and fire screen with radar shot out and wound up at 4000 yards broadside to a wounded Yamato. Now THAT was exciting. I am very glad the Yamato's FC system was dinged up, or it would have been a very short and violent action at that point. That was a "cerebral" game instead of a "shooter."

Many! I still have a few of these around. Victory Games always did a good job.

Sorry, you can't claim "classic" status for the AH versions of Airforce / Dauntless and the expansion kit! The "originals" of those were Battleline games, that I spent countless hours playing with a group of friends in college in the mid-70s. (I REALLY am old!). Our group was even one that playtested the expansion kit aircraft. Those were the very old days.

Amen, brother. A simulation of the entire Eastern Front...at regimental level!!!![8D]
It's the only game that might distract me a bit from WitP.

Ahh, "Wooden Ships..." I think I have a mint or "near" mint condition version of that game about the house. LOVED it. Don't know why some days, but I did... same was true with the old Pacific War game by Victory games... Have that too... Much as I TRIED to play that on my own, having an AI to game with even will be a treat since this game will BASICALLY be a computerized version of the same thing... only better. [8D][:D]

The 2 games that got me hooked were Command H.Q. and Carrier Strike. I was in the Army and bought a 386/DX 66 with a 25 MB hard drive. It was the most smokin' computer in my company. I think I paid about $1600. (about 2 months pay for a E-2)And Command H.Q. acually had multi-player support so me and a friend started playing one Sat night.....We paused it for PT that Monday morning. I also used to play alot of Germany 84 for the ?Commandor 64?......

We are shooting to have this ready for sale at Origins (Matrix will be there). This is still possible. We are very close. For quite some time now we've been aiming for the code to be done by the end of May and that is still possible. Ask us again in 10 days and we'll know a lot more.

And more information has been posted since then, as well. [:'(]
