How many cheered during the "Run down the Trench" done by Japanese bombers during Pearl Harbor mistaking the movie for Star Wars, a New hope?

How many hoped that a DC would sink Jon Bon Jovi during U-571?

(guilty)

U-571 made me root for the Axis in a movie for the first time. Well, not actually the first. I wanted that Von Trapp family dead I tell you.

I like to watch the Hollywood remakes of history too. The Brits were at war with the U-Boats for over two years- and getting their butts kicked. Then the USA enters the war, makes a daring raid, and captures the codes. Now that is brilliant. No wonder they got to capture the Red October tooo.

As far as conventional war movies go, I couldn't possibly make a choice (for one thing, I can't remember all the movies I've seen!).

If you want to stretch the definition of war movie, though, to include "Casablanca," then I would definitely say the scene where the Germans are singing "Die Wacht am Rein" and Victor Laslo starts "La Marsaillese" over them.

Damn, I almost forgot...how about Red Dawn!!! My fav scenes are blowing up the tank with the picnic basket, the airborne assault on the school grounds, and the Hind-D attack near the end.

So how many of you have seen "The Lion of the Desert". Rod Steiger is Benito Mussolini. There's is a War Movie.
Ha! I saw most of that way back when...didn't stay for the finish - left the theatre for the first time in my life.
I never saw a movie that was such an injustice to the Italians before. No wonder they lost in WWII - they couldn't drive a vehicle without flipping it over....apparently

The Bridge at Remagen, 1969

[Kreuger is offered a last cigarette before he is executed by firing squad. He and the Nazi Officer hear planes.]
Major Paul Kreuger: Whose?
Nazi Officer: Enemy planes, Major.
Major Paul Kreuger: But who is the enemy?

...my vote for most sardonic line...i really felt for the Major when i saw the movie
Kirk Lazarus: I know who I am. I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!
Ron Swanson: Clear alcohols are for rich women on diets.

I always liked the scene in "They Were Expendable" where the CO (Brinkley?) says good-bye to his extra boat crews and sends them off to fight with the Army just before taking MacArthur South. The ragtag bunch of sailors heads off down the road to the tune of "You're in the Army Now".

I love the scene in "The Bedford Incident" where the ship has just accidently rammed the periscope of the Russian sub and the journalist Munceford (Sidney Poitier) is asking Captain Finlander (Richard Widwark) on the bridge what he he will do if the Russian responds by firing a torpedo. Finlander yells that, "If he fires one, I'll fire!" and Ensign Ralston, the Weapons Officer (James MacArthur) yells, "Fire one!" and launches an ASROC at the Russian. OOOPS!!!

Another good line is from "12 O'clock High" when Savage (Gregory Peck) is on his way down to Ashbury to take over the 918th BG. He has the driver stop just outside the gate and lets himself out to smoke a cigarette. He leans in the window and says to his driver, "Want one, Ernie?" (or words to that effect). He then smokes half his cigarette, throws it on the ground and you can see him shifting mental gears as he growls, "Alright, sargeant. Let's go!" as he turns from nice guy into a hard ass.

Hi all,

For me one of the best war movies is "Aces High" - it is WWI movie about British pilots in France in 1917 (I think)... the green pilots lost every day in endless missions... veteran pilots loosing faith...
