Hey guys,

It's March 17th 1942 in our game and here is the latest.

In China the boys are getting nowhere. I'm quite sure Dan can handle it well.

Java is about to fall but that comes as no surprise since we are quite far into the game.

What is delaying them is that Manilla + most bases are still holding out! Even Singapore has not been taken! I do understand that it's only a matter of time but they are buying time.

In Burma they were stopped cold at Mandalay. He still has three divisions there so who knows what will happen once Singapore falls. My best guess is that it will fall in early April and that Manilla will fall in May. These are all Dan Stafford's areas.

I am in charge of everything from Alaska to New Zeeland in the south. Trying to build up bases as best as I can. I do suspect some sort of offensive once they take above mentioned bases in April/May. So June-July should see something BIG from the boys.

As some of you know I took over from another player. That player lost two USN CVs so there is not much I can do. What I have accomplished so far was to repulse his invasion of Canton Island and destroy the South Seas Det. [:)]

Right now Scott and Gary's progress is SLOW but one should never relax...

Jap invasion of Johnson I underway. Full strenght division landing!!

I'll give you a full report once I get the turn. So far I only have the replay.

I made the mistake of asuming an invasion in my area with large forces was only possible in may/june 1942 and not at the end of March. Cought me by surprise...

Scott's comment leaves me somewhat clueless. Maybe he can explain to the readers [:)]

4th division landed on the US base Johnston island and was cut to pieces. I will of course destroy it if given the chance as I did with Scott's South Seas Det.

4 IJN MSWs, 1 CL sunk plus many transports badly damaged.

A great day for the Americans!

The IJN boys had another convoy bound for Johnson I carrying a special base force unit and the convoy of 7 APs was ambushed by my carriers NE of the island. as you can see in the AAR it was a slaughter. A bombardment TF and my b-25s based on Johson I also took a few more AP/AKs to the bottom of the ocean. 20-25 IJN ships lost and hopefully a division too when this battle is over!

In China I am quite worried now. They took Ichang and are sending units through the gap. Let's see where they decide to go. Not worried at all about the loss of China but the loss of territory.

Singapore will fall tomorrow, 21st of March, or the day after.

Philippines still holding out.

Scott/Gary are sending quite strong convoys to Gili Gili and I'm not sure why at the moment. Dan Stafford has a few bombers based at Port Moresby and he has sunk 20-30 ships so far with them. I'm talking with 20-24 airplanes here [:)]

Let's see where the boys decide to go after the fall of Singapore

UPDATE

Attacks on the trapped Jap Inf Div on Johnston I have begun. Let's see how tough it is. I expect that I'll need more troops.

Otherwise all is quiet on my side of the pond.

Singapore will fall next turn unless they decide not to attack which they will of course.

The BIG EVENT right now is that Scott (I think it's his area) has moved the KB three hexes away from Port Moresby and an invasion TF is coming up behind it. Let's see what happens over the next 5-6 days.

Otherwise things are quiet...

Singapore fell today. Very happy with how long they held out!

The Japs are moving in the Philippines again. I'd give our troops another month before they surrender.

Not much to report other than that KB strikes PM yet again. Slow moving transports getting closer to PM and should be there in 2-3 days. Of course he could just swing down to Autralia too but I find that very unlikely.

BTW I'm glad to see Scott and Gary here more often and that we are all posting more often in this AAR

Mopping up on Johnston I continues but now it's costing me more than him. Will rest the troops after next turn before another push to destroy the trapped division.

The boys have landed at Port Moresby! This is Dan Staffords area and right now I don't see it falling without more troops being send. If one takes the base as Japan the gain is worthless unless one really poor troops into it. It will fall easily otherwise if the IJN player does not continue to push for Aussie land.

In China Gary is trying to use the gap and cut China in to two. Everything east of New Zeeland/Noumea is Dan Stafford's area so I trust that he knows what he is doing.

Otherwise not much happening

It will take more than the one division landed to secure Port Moresby. You may not realize it yet, but the Japanese empire has already reached its zenith!

So here is a complete AAR of the day Scott posted parts of.

The invasion of Port Moresby is underway as you all know. Several APs was badly damaged by CDs. One division has landed and I count 2-3 more convoys inbound. I'm sure Scott did not intend to invade with only one division as that would be foolish. Let's see what else is coming. No doubt, with more forces, that PM will fall. BUT that is only important depending on how the IJN uses that "victory".

I agree with Dan's comment that I'll gladly take the loss of 19 aircraft for three IJN CAs any day! I knew he was using that base for the bombardment of Johnston I and I had seen the TF there for many days prior to that. I had no sighting report on it for many days so I took a chance with my CVs and it paid off!
