Well its not an absolute. but it does make sense with the way the battle line forms up alot of your ships wont ever get a chance to get into position to fire. As you see i went in with a BC fleet alot smaller and did ok.

That 2nd fight you did ok you fucked up one of my BB's pretty bad its at 49ish it looks like with the amount of fire coming off her :)

The dynamics are alot different. Its more about leaders & gun caliber and fleet organization then just throwing a jumbo fleet together like we could in WITP. You will get the hang of it i'm sure. Its weird jumpginb etween the 2 games though LOL.

Tanker did alot of changes to how everything works.

I did bring all my 16" ships - the Nagato and Mutsu were both sunk!
One of my tf's was left with the carrier force 1 hex away. At such low
ranges (2-8000 yards) everything from 14" and up would be devastating.

I've not read about many succesful Japanese surface combats on the forum
- seems like people are having problems getting results against Allied
capital ships in general. Must admit I was expecting to receive a
pummeling as well! Unfortunately my feelings didn't betray me ; )

Damn this battle is forever :)

Well i did have limited success aganist billy but i had to stop thinking of giant BB fleets. but it was mostly success based off necessity i didnt have 4 bb's to put together so i did fleets of 2 BB's with some DD's and CA's and night raids. I got him pretty good after i changed up tactics.

I think the majority of the problem is the japanese lack of finesse i haven't seen a jap attack that wasn't on the allies terms yet. Which is what i think really helps. Now if i were to take on pearl again i would avoid his fleet at all costs until i took lahania and got a AR there. Once i had that i would be able to send raids into the allies group. But there is NO way to win aganist the allies at PH becuase they outnumber you. Which happened to me the first few fights. I litterally ran out of AMMO for my guns by the 3rd fight but he had enough fleets to just ripe my ass. WHich is why i use unaggressive captains now i'd rather be certain to have 1 round of combat with all my ammo rather then several rounds and possibly run out because the commanders are not smart enough to realize hay i'm out of 16/14 inch ammo lets not engage.

I think you'll figure it out and ithink the japanese just have to make the allies engage at their choosing. I mean i waited for you i saw you i said ok hes in full speed range let me jump in and hit him and jump out. Now if you had gone to the south west of palmyra which is where i threw my CV (i just had to hide i couldnt lose it) you could have sunk 3 bb's & a cv becuase i didnt have enough ships to win i would have been toast. Even with the 16 inch ships i have protecting langly. I also moved langly becuase she has a range of 2 i didnt realize you only had a range of 1 until you told me thats a huge advantage in my eyes. (btw in a month you can upgrade all your airframes on your cvs to range 2-3 planes FYI) I couldnt lose the only CV i get for the better part of ayear. she will make an excellent if somewhat slow scout.

I was hoping to engage the massive units you had outside of PH - didn't
really want to enter the port : - ) Knew you had lots of ac, ships and
mines there.
There is probably lots of truth in what you say but I still think the
results were too one sided to be able to justify it.

The Japs best ships with their best leaders and they can't even shoot
straight?
The following Tf's were very evenly matched - fought 2 rounds and I
scored 1 small !!!! hit on your capital ships.
Not easy to explain, even the Italians would have done better ; )

You sank 3 modern battleships: Nagato, Mutsu and Hyuga + 2
battlecruisers of the Kongo class. I will only get 2 bc's as
reinforcements in 202 days
and no bb's...No worries, I got enough to defend myself - but the fight
will not be expanded to include Britain ; )

You organized your fleet well, so well done : ) Still not sure about the
results though...V.Adm Yamamoto with 76 naval skill and an aggression
rating of 63
should be an able commander for 4 capital ships and 5 escort vessels.

Last turn for tonight, got a WitP turn - got some action pending - so
I'll have to figure out how to get a dozen dreadnoughts to fire their
guns in WPO tomorrow ; )

Johns considering just opening it up and playing fast and brutual to get a feel for the game and then restarting. Which is fine with me.

But guys now that i have john on the defensive. What should i do? i have really no ground troops so what should i do? US vs JP only for the time. I can use AO & BB to bombard things that are lightly defended becuase i dont want to have a major battle far away from a repair port.

But what are my options for now? Just harassing until i get some ground forces under foot?

Thanks helpless. I"ve been reading johns aar with wobbly/nomad/andy since day 1 i know how damn sneaky he is. And i know that even though he says he is going on the defenseive his warriors spirit will come out and he will go on the offensive again. Especially if we go gangbusters. I can play teh waiting game i want tokeep my ships within 1 days sail from PH for quick repairs.

As of now i'm sending the langly NW to try to come to a point 3-4 hexes west of JOhnston hopefully to be able to intercept his damaged ships. I have 5 8000 END subs that i want to put on the route to saipan. And 3 subs going to kwalejin. I would goto kwal first and then saipan or right from kwal to mainland japan to repair.

I want the chance to sink those babies..

But i expect him to learn alot about the game and we might restart but he is always formidable.

I just wanted to put the conversation out ther.e I really think japan can do well aganist the us navy but it takes ALOT of planning.

It's not simple this is not WITP where we can steamroller everything. We have finite resources that we have to use in order to take on the allies.

But as the allies it is like WITP :) bide our time and eventually we will be giants...

Another Fast Transport invasion of palmyra intercepted!

Well an AO met with CV Langley about 6 hexes SSE of JOhnston between JOhnston & Palmyra. I was then moving Langley to a point between Johnston and Kwalajein & Saipain to hopefully bag a few damaged ships retreating. BUT i ran into 2 Cruisers and a BB heading towards Palmyra. I landed 3 torps into the Settsu and 1 into the CA Iwate. ANd it killed 62 troops so i am pretty sure its a fast transport group.

I set Langely to move 3 hexes SSE if he comes towards palmyra more i can get him. But i got notice that his CV TF was reacting to me so i know he might have them sprint towards me. I know langely makes 15K i dont know how fast the Jap CV's go so i'm going to pullb ack and play it safe. But i will keep guarding the route to palmyra until he comes with something stronger. Hopefully i can stay 1 step away from the fire. I am also moving 8 DD's to a point between johnston & palmyra hopefully to be able to get a night attack in. I was thinking of pulling my CV towards palmya and then meeting him there with my bb's but i dont want to take my babies that far out to play. If one gets badly hurt then shes toast. I can afford to play teh waiting game. Johns really discouraged he calls this game hopeless. I think once he gets a better understanding of the game he will be happier and more confident.

It was dumb luck really i was hoping to interdict him going on his retreat. But i guess he just wanted palmya badly. I should probably FT the RGT that is on lahania to Palmya.

But alas it might have to wait. John wants to play a shorter SLUGFEST war to see if the japs ships can stand up to the british. So once we learn a bit from the other game we could resume this one. I'll know more later!
