you might be able to go around any of his blockading subs and/or ships by having a line of supply from japan to wake isl., then a line of supply from there to either french frigate shoals or johnson isl., and then another very short and heavily escorted line of supply from there to hawaii. he might not expect you to come in straight from the west or southwest and you might be able to get away from taking some casualties from the first 2 lines of supply until he figures out what yer doing. with your losses i would assume you are in a ship-conservation phase, and this might help!

Yea i've been setting up CS lines from TOKYO to kwajelin to johnson to lahaina. I dont have too many escort ships but merchant ships is not my major shortage. I'm going to have

to figure out a way to take out his navy around pearl. I think i've decided that with my lack of naval forces to force him out i will have to rely on fast transport groups to get the troops onto pearl.

Finally some payback on the open seas.

I also reduced the forts on PH back down to 4 again. If i can just keep this steady and get the 25 destroyers in place in lahania i can fast transport troops in!

Took Pearl down to Lvl 3 forts HOORAY! But my fast transport force was denied but they did seem to put a wallop on the enemy force.

Good news tomorrow an AD will disband at lahani so all those pretty DD's can start to reload torps :).

Also 25 new DDs docking soon and As is docked!

Along with any requests i will need help from you guys on an Exit strategy. no i'm not talking about IRAQ [:-]. I need a plan to extract my units from PH without killing off the rest of my fleet. I don't think there is anyway i can get PH now unless i can get a few more divisions over it but my fleet is already in ruins. Basically when you look at a japanese ship funny it starts to sink anyway.

So if i fast transport in at night with enemy ships is there a chance i can sneak by without getting attacked or is it certain? is the best way to sneak out cadres via sub then?

ANy other plans? Reinforce the other Hawaiian islands and wait? Ideas boys i need ideas.

I don't own the game but will, soon. My observation of your AAR tells me that if you want to win the game think more strategically. You committed too much, too early, in the wrong place.

Just my opinion.

well i'm sure thats right becuase i had not played the game and it was a wing and a prayer :P. Now some advice on fixing it!!

Well i've decided the war is going to be won or lost at Pearl. I offloaded the 18th division at PH and my ships got slaughtered i lost 9500 men!!! jesus...

Well that division was slaughtered on the beach. But i will not give up pearl. I did not march all the way across the pacific just to be denied. This will be my guadelcanal...i will take pearl god as my witness i will take pearl. if i can kill those units off on pearl i will make alot of points back to counter my lost fleet. There are 4 more years left in this war and while i got off on a shitty start if i start putting my new experience to use i could make this more trying. If i can hold the hawaainn islands with enough AP and fuel & supplies i will have a strong point that will not be easily taken down. If i can kick him off i have at least a year before he can try to take back PH. In that time i can get the islands built up to level 9 forts get some fierce coastal defense guns up and working. And i can make him pay just as dearly to take PH back.

This is by far one of the most depressing turns...my transport fleets were annhilated. But i sunk 4 US bb's and 14 DD's...

Though i lost alot of my other BB's but in better news 2 BC's and 2 16 inch bb's disbanded to begin repairs... so all is not lost. I just have to be more frugal in the future but PH will fall.

Well this battle may seem like it has broken my back but i've worked through at least 50 US destroyers thats almost half. While he has BB's if we can just hit and run PH we can still pull this off. Packs of DD's can pop in and hit PH at night and rip him to pieces.

It's caused him to dock his fleet on a number of occasions. We just have to keep it up until we get lucky.

Allies Pulling Qut of PH!

Post by bwheatley »

In a move that is completely suprising the allies appear to be pulling out of pearl harbor! In this attack round there was only 2 allied units. Shock attacks will begin with all due haste. I will not look a gift horse in the mouth. I was just about to offload 3 divisions and a bde onto pearl but this turn of events has made leaders at IJA HQ Smile.

More to come....

Well with this turn of events we need to have a planning session. This will bring in everyone else against the Japanse. So Hong Kong and the west is now open. With the major lack of Surface forces we're going to be on a shoe string budget were surface ships are concerned.

The plans i have #1 Move the CD units from Lahaina to pearl get 200+ engineers to PH and start ot build it up
lahania is almost level 5 port
ph is a level 5 port too.
Those 2 bases will make nice strongpoints. Hilo & kona will be built up as well.
I'm doing everything i can to take out the remaining defenders at Manila but if we take pearl then the allies might try to reinforce manila with british troops. I have a few ART troops in Bataan hopefully that will keep them out. I've also put 400+ mines in bataan so any trip to manilla will take some loses but i can't afford to let reinforcements get in.

Well PH is firmly under my control i am sending out a few destroyers north and north east to check for his ships i want to try to sink a few. My sub screen has been ordered to fan out to hopefully spot and sink some of them but i'm not terribly hopeful.

Well 5 DD's tracked down the fleeing american fleet. But engage in the day time instead of night :(

So 2 DD's are firmly under my control.

Is anyone still reading this thing or should i mothball it :)?

Billy has been talking ot me like i had alot of units on pearl and sure i did but they have been so shattered they are all mostly support troops the highest AP of anything on the island is 250 :)
So i lucked out with that bluff. Again i made a mistake and came into pearl before i attacked and got ripped apart again.
Well learning the hard way is better then not ever learning at all right?

I'm sending a couple more divisions and bde to manilla. I have to take it before he reinforces it. I am expecting an attack back on PI eventually i have to get this city squared away and then i can start the business of organizing a defense. At least having interior lines of communication will hopefully keep my fleet safe. It would be hard for an allied fleet to move through my terrority. I'm going to recall all subs soon and start to setup picket lines throughout the pacific to get an idea of when the enemy is coming.

If the thread hit count is at least about 10 times that of the post count, that should mean people other than you are reading it - so it is worth continuing to write it !!

RE: Allies Pulling Qut of PH!

Post by bwheatley »

Well i think it might be just because the uber defeneses PH gets. I can still see it happening though but first Naval superiority has to be in place. Because you'll have to shell the shit outta that island to knock out those 4-5 new forts that will be in new version.

Though i am pretty sure it would still be doable. But you would have to really smash up the fleet good and hard. But first taking lahaina and building it up for a few months to get it to lvl 6 port with an AR so you can have some hope of your ships being saved. But i think all that would pretty much mean that no jap player is ever going to have the balls or the desire to try it again. The only reason i tried it is because when i first came to the forums i said...

Why don't people invade the US..why dont people land at Singapore directly ETC. And now i know. Also i was a newbie to WPO PBEM so i figured what the hell lets learn on the fly. If the unit replacements were better this attack would have turned out a little better becuase i landed 150k of supplies on PH within 2 days :). I had a pretty big armada to land everything.

I think i'm in some tricky situations because of lack of sea power but hopefully we can overcome.

First thing is to kill those bastards off at manilla i'm throwing about 1000 more AP at manilla with a few more base forces to try and get enough engineers to really just kill them. I need to secure PI because i expect a counterstroke within a couple months.

I am moving the new 16 inch BB that i just got to Pescadores with a few DD's in order to have some sort of BB around. If he comes with a DD strike or something i might be able to hit him with the heavy and do some harm. Once my surface forces at PH heal up enough i'll get them into dry dock. I will be able to field 10 BB/BC if all repairs go well.

Thats enough for 2 good fleets if used properly> hopefully i have learned my lesson about piecemeal engagements.

The poor jap soldiers got sent into the grinder by me. But they listened.
I'm confident. Billy can move a few divisions from india but they start with a good deal of disable meants and are only really 100-150 AP. If i can get the PI dug in i want to try to hold all the outer cities with a stronger reaction force in Clark that will be able to react and counter an invasion. I dont need to be strong everywhere i just have to think of a good depth in defense. Without air power to blow everyone to pieces ground combat is really a slugging match when there are no BB's to provide protection. I am hoping i will be notified of any attempt to reinforce manilla because i have a few base forces with some 6inch DP guns at bataan.

I know they won't do much to a war ship but hopefully they will tear up any AK/AP coming through.

What does everyone think? What is the best strategy to defend PI?

I guess in order to do that you will need some screenies of units etc? I will get you guys screens later of my units and what not. I could use some defense my ideas of defense are based from just standard thinking. i dont know how well they will work with witp/wpo any ideas??

Thanks loyal readers :) You make it more fun. Hopefully some of you cheered when i finally sunk the Uss Arizona and the few other BB's. Hopefully you cheered when i captured PH.

That just goes to show you that PysOps is good :). I was totally bluffing i really didn't think i would take PH after those CD guns went into place. Taking 9k & 20K casulaties from a landing is just unacceptable in a model where there are only enough replacements to rebuild 4 divisions throughout the course of the entire war :).

So you have to use your forces more wisely. But my bs'ing worked and got him to think i had more then i did. I didn't tell you guys this but i also split up convoys into smaller convoys and send them via different routes :) i wanted him to think i was sending in alot of reinforcements. He was telling me he thought i had lahaina full of troops :) In reality i only had about 700 AP there :> I will probably lose this war but i am having fun and learning. And i'm having fun with my 7 ML's :) Mining the shit outta midway upto 1300 mines already. And mining bataan up to almost 1100 mines already as well! I want him to pay through the nose to try to reinforce manilla.

Though i just think if he tries to get troops to manilla it will be by landing elsewhere. IF you were an allied player what city woul dyou land at?

LOL it is definately nice to hear compliments though :)

Well i think the action will come to a close until billy decides to counter strike. I am running about 8 subs to Mare island they will have a few turns to loiter HOPEFully they can plug a few of his transports on the way. Surface action wont work both my DD & my CL forces were repulsed with me taking more damage then i was getting because of those BB escorts.

I am rushing 3 BDE's 3 more DIV and a few more divs from Davao to Naga to finish off manilla before it can be reinforced. This is a major PITA. I have moved some of the shattered small units to the outter citys on luzon to at least give me a turn of defense. each unit has some engineers so they can slowly build up too.

Question. What is the best defense strategy? Weak city defense with a strong reaction force in Clark/Manilla?

Ideas...
