The case is the destroyed units thing does not show any HQ [&:] Maybe he disbanded it (an accident)? But disbanded HQs are listed as losses. Or not?

I don't know what's going on but I want some more of this "destruction", please! Panzer divisions, you are next! [8D]

The Bryansk Front is OBVIOUSLY active. I want to annihilate the 45th German Infantry Division!

The Southwest Front. NOT advancing. A tank brigade is behind enemy lines because it was trapped there after an infiltration on last turn. I have opened a corridor.

As I already said, I never did the Blizzard Offensive before. This is my first time. I think I could have done it better [8D] And this has nothing to do with Big Anorak's rule. No matter what, I would always it (because a massive attack is ahistorical). I simply think I have been somewhat incompetent.

What have I discovered? An enemy 2-units stack with fort level 2, 3 or above is generally unvulnerable, even if attacked from 3 hexes (9 units). BUT a single unit -even with big fort levels- cannot resist an atack from 3 hexes (9 units), perhaps 2 hexes (6 units) are enough. This is NOT a scientific approach at all, just my impression so far.

I have sent the 43 Stavka Reserve Army to Bryansk area, to keep pressure. 4 Rifle Divisions + 1 Tank Brigade + lot of support and a decent leader.

How many attacks are you averaging per blizzard turn and how many fail? I was only able to make about 40 per turn with a third being failed attacks. The most attacks i made in a turn was 45. This was before the increase in armament points from 200 to 300 per factory which have allowed for an army increase of about 1.5M more men than i could field as the Soviets. You guys have the 300 per armament factory and see the huge increase, this was recently dropped down to 250. I'm in a test game again with that value.
 
I saw somewhat the same thing with the fort levels you refer to. The difficulty now of a level 2 fort seems greater than before. I was able to hold the line fairly well during the blizzard losing on average only 30 miles (3 hexes) along the front. Only where I put a major attempt was the front pushed back 60 miles. There was only a single significant breakthru but that got closed off and destroyed by a pair of panzer corps that were in reserve sitting on a railhead.

More or less like you. Anyway, I was not making attacks when I saw 2-units stacks (German infantry) with fort levels 2 or 3 and something like x=2x/3x [X(] 2ndACR was heavily entrenched in the north and center. In the south he was very weak though.

And one more German Division in the bag 2ndACR airdropped supplies. I guess this time he sent Iron Crosses instead of kartoffel... They deserve them. They can proudly show them to the Soviet guards somewhere in the Arctic.

In the Center, a strategic withdrawal. Now I think I will be able to recapture Smolensk. I was not pushing hard in the Kalinin and Western Fronts. Not my priority and the enemy was heavily entrenched.

YES YES YES YES! Maybe there will be an Orel Chainsaw Massacre Part II [:D] I have totally surrounded two German Divisions: 17 Panzer and 297 Infantry. I will make a few more attacks though I don't know if they will work.

EDIT: oh, and Kursk recaptured.

The operation near Orel might be much more dangerous than I thought [X(] The right flank of the Southwestern Front is involved too. If he does not pay attention I am going to massacre many German units In any case, this threat alone might be the last nail in the coffin of the two German divisions I was planning to bag...

Funny thing about the real Guards units. Up until late 1942, by the time they had done something to become a Guards unit, they were so chewed up that they were ineffective. It took a bit of time and material to get them back up to the point where they were just before they became a Guard unit. So actually, when a unit becomes a Guard unit ingame, it should be about as strong as a regiment. [:D]
