As April draws to a close the Northern front remains static and rain continues to fall in the sector as 8th Armee waits.

In the Gorky sector front line units report enemy activity as Soviet Inf Div's cross the Vetluga river and push towards Semenov, at Lyskovo Red Army Tanks were observed, however the enemy remains on the defensive unwilling to engage.

On 4th Armee's main defensive line there is little fighting, a few enemy Tank and Inf units slowly edge forward but they offer no real threat to Axis forces.

On the central front the weather is improving giving 3rd Pz Armee and units from 2nd Armee an opportunity to expand the defensive perimeter around Penza, Infantry units push forward a further 10 miles unchallenged as Soviet forces appear to have withdrawn from there own defensive positions.

In the Tambov region on 2nd Armee / 9th Armee front line fighting has died down, most enemy units moving back well out of contact from our forces, only the Soviet 12th Tank Corps maintaining a defensive stance on the front line.

The enemy pocket trapped in and around the town of Novaya Kalitva is all but destroyed only the 24th Tank Corps holds out, the Soviet 6th Tank Army pushes forward more units against our front lines but no major fighting in the sector.
As the weather begins to clear the supply situation also improves and units prepare for the Axis offensive.

Situation Report April 27th 1944 Turn 76
Army Group South

Despite the three Soviet Armies being cutoff the Red Airforce drops supplies and fuel at a captured airfield North of Tatsinskaya allowing the trapped units to push further South and come within 30 miles of FM Von Kleist's HQ at Rostov itself, causing the Field Marshal some concern it also disrupts Gen Hausser's plan to destroy the trapped Soviet armour who are engaged in fighting Hoth's 4th Pz Armee. The SS troops are ordered to move South and destroy a enemy Inf unit which captured Manych.
While this is taking place 1st Shock Army engages XXXXVIII Pz Korps in an effort to reopen supply lines with the rest of 2nd Ukrainian Fronts forces, the Axis line holds and the Soviet 10th Tank Corps is destroyed.
4th Pz Armee's front line remains stable at this time with an estimated 100 thousand Red Army Troops encircled in the Donets Basin pocket.

Situation Report April 27th 1944 Turn 76
Army Group A

On The Caspian front the Soviet High Command reinforces 4th Ukrainian Front, this build up comes at a worrying time for the Army Group with three of its Panzer Divisions being withdrawn from the line to refit and with almost a dozen Inf Divisions also in rear areas refitting Von Kleist is now greatly under strength for any major action, despite the massive forces arrayed along the front line enemy activity is minor.

At his HQ North of the town of Cerny Rynok Von Mackensen ( 1st Pz Armee ) receives reports from his two Commanders Gen Breith( III Pz Korps ) and Gen Geyr von Schweppenburg ( XXXX Pz Korps ) that the three Panzer Divisions will need at least two weeks to be fully battle ready, the tank replacements are to small in numbers currently and there arrival is to slow to bring the units up to strength within a short space of time, along with munitions of all kinds including Artillery shells for all calibres guns, for the Inf Divisions manpower replacements are low, and despite controlling the Oilfields in the South and having abundant levels of fuel stockpiled, the quantities sent to units is also to low which is restricting full unit mobility, this may force a delay for Germany's new offensive.

Italian Front
Situation Report April 29th 1944 Turn 44
Army Group C

At his HQ in Rome General Zeitzler now realises that the current defence line will not hold out through the summer months, not without substantial reinforcements and with only two new divisions being made available to his Command those numbers will not be enough, the only option was to take units away from key strategic defensive sites and form a second defence line ready for when The Allies breakthrough.
15th Panzer Division guarding the beaches South of Rome is ordered to take up positions behind the main defence line and prepare fortifications, the new line from Grazzanise in the South to a position forward of the town of Vasto and the Trigno River known as The Barbara Line.
The 15th Panzer along with the 162 Turkomen,92nd and 719th Infintry divisions will dig in, 90th Pz Gren Div will also move to this new line.
Zeitzler's plan is for our forces to hold as long as possible until there is a breach at which the whole line will fall back on a shorter defensive position hopefully freeing up more troops as reserves.
Army Group C 44b.jpg
Army Group C 44b.jpg (598.62 KiB) Viewed 393 times

The Allies begin there assaults on our defences though not on the scale of last week with there attacks being centred on the three main objectives Grazzanise on the Coast and Capua airbase, in the centre the Allies attack from Campobasso towards the rail centre of Isernia, on the Adriatic side the enemy launches flanking attacks and a direct attack against the coastal town of Termoli, heavy fighting in all three sectors with all sides taking large losses but our forces hold however the HG Panzer division is severely depleted and forced to withdraw from the line.
