A new offensive in China has been underway now for the last week, but Luskan has only caught wind of it in the last two turns. Surprise was lost when units moving to cut his LOC reached their objectives much earlier than had been planned. I must admitt that I am surprised that Luskan did not suspect anything when I first started using the B-25s in China, as they have been brought in to support the offensive, but also it is kinda hard to hide three armies marching towards Sian.
The first objective is Sian and for this I have allocated three Chinese armies in an effort to reach a three to one ratio. I had originally allocated six Chinese armies for the job but this would have left my flanks wide open for a counter offensive. The speed and size of Luskan's response will dictate where and when the second Chinese offensive will start.

What do you mean by "army"? Two, four, or six corps? You will need a lot of them for each Japanese division that is there. Obviously the strength and supply of the corps is important too.
PS: How did you get Chinese units so far behind enemy lines at Peking? Wierd.

Army to me means three corps made up of three Divisons..............................give or take[;)] That unit near Peking has been flapping around since December'41. Luskan is a bit lazy when it comes to cleaning house.

Perhaps - but starvation works just as well as bullets over a long time frame.
As for Sian - I'm relieved that I've packed 8 divisions, arty, eng and base force in there now. I'm safe. I haven't been able to get the 6+ divisions at Lanchow and Kungchang south to the fight - I've only dispatched a single mixed brigade to clear the road (I can't afford to let them leave hteir size 9 forts for Sian because Raver will use his northernmost troops to try and attack from up there. Can't afford to loose it so . . .
The reason i won the race is because my troops arrived in rag tag formation. Raver's are marching together to all arrive together. Gives me an edge, although he is winning the bombing campaign so far. That'll change when my units are off the road and in the city.
As for the north, Raver conducted his first amphibious op last turn at took Attu from me (I had no one there). I sent in my entire northern fleet (2 destroyers) and hit his invasion fleet as they unloaded, and sunk 3 or 4 pgs, and a MSW although the transports escaped.
unfortunately they retired to Kittu (my manned base) in time for Raver's 2 BBs to show up. I've got 4 BBs offline at the moment, and even if I had them all in working order, I'd never be able to spare them for a theatre that is so far away (from japan - with nothing but empty ocean imbetween) and so far away from the vital things I have to protect. I wish I had the sort of firepower available to devote two BBs up there but I can't.
My crazy suicidal commander lead the northern fleet at Raver's BBs, surprised them, and put in a dozen small shell hits on the two bbs. At this point the allies recovered from their surprise (they weren't really in a rush) and sank 1 of my precious dds (I'm running out of them) and crippled the other. They'll return to their base, rearm and come back and finish the job on their next bombardment. Either that or she sinks at sea.
Discretion would have served me MUCH better this turn, although commnder what's his face is too dead to realise it.
I was never really serious about the aleutians, but it still stings to have a small inf unit trapped up there, getting bombarded and about to be invaded and there isn't bugger all I can do about it.

The pressure is now being applied to Luskan, he is like the frog sitting the pot of water which is being heated up. China will soon explode in his face, and with my operations to re-take the aleutians, he will soon find him self very very busy. Just to add some more heat to the pot, I have ordered my CVs to attck a certain spot, which is a weak link in his Island defences. This small operation will cover a further landing on another Island. Luskan is in for a hard time.

Well Luskan had his head handed to him on a plate with an air attack on Kweiyang that went terribly wrong. 107 Sallys were escorted by only three Zeros and the Spitfires had a field day taking 30 jap aircraft down for no losses. China is becoming one giant tar-baby for Luskan.

Email problems are keeping turn rate slow, but this turn finally went through to Raver without bloody well bouncing back. And it was SUCH a good turn. [:D][:D][:D]
Two things of note.
1. Raver's advance on Sian in China - poorly disciplined. 2 chinese units arrived over a turn before the rest of the army. I smacked them as you will see in the combat report.
2. I raced my refitting CV division (not really a division) from their repair births up north as soon as I could. Raver had 2 old, fat slow bbs operating up there causing much havoc. Cost me a dd and more than a few troops in an area I DO have plenty of air superiority and short supply lines. He never saw them coming and the CAP . . . well they hadn't seen any action so far this war and it showed. Big time. Small CV strike - not really decisive, but big time payback for Kirishima - who is still afloat. Nevada is ALREADY on the sunk ship list. By the time Raver gets some firepower up north, my boys will be long gone under the watched eye of about 700 land based aircraft watching the northern approaches.

Timing is everything, and right across the whole map, mine has been off. First to the CV attack in the north, well i was expecting it, but not that turn ! I had already decided to remove my bombardment group back east as I just knew that Luskan would dash in with a quick strike. But the bombardment TF lost a day refueling, the PBYs didn't spot them soon enough and the fighter cover was lack-luster.
Battles are not won by the best general, they are won by he whom makes the least mistakes.
China, well trying to co ordinate some 250,000 chinese troops is not easy, there always seems to be the odd one unit commander whom wishes to race forward, and at Sian there were two such units. However it may be a blessing, as I now know the true strength of Luskan's troops, and as a result of crunching the numbers have decided not to go ahead with the assult. A pity as I am sure that if I had been faster, I could have taken the place, as it is Luskan won the race to reinforce Sian, so there is little to gain for me in wasting troops.
I still have a couple of other (small) offensive operations on the go, but until my CV have finished their re-fits, I am not really going to do much for the next 2 months.

Well I still have email woes but got a turn off. it was brilliant by the way. Raver's surface combat group tried to hit Kendari. Mistake (although they didn't seem to even notice the uber minefield much less hit any mines) for Raver.
Up north Raver scattered his considerable assets in an attempt to escape my cvs. Another mistake, as my little raids of 10 and 11 planes each picked off juicy target after target. Yamada is being promoted as soon as he gets back to Japan - which unfortunately will have to be soon for three reasons:
1. Doesn't do to sit your cvs where the enemy can see them and stay there for more than 3 turns (it has been 3 turns now - is a 5 turn trip from pearl for any allied cvs - although I knew they were a lot furtther south than pearl - I've had some watchdogs out for them in any case.
2. My little cvs are running out of mission points, and
3. they need to do some refitting - since that was the reason they were originally that far north. The 2 cvs that have already been refitted have been ordered to resume their original assignments with my on station cv forces.
In 3 turns of work up north, Yamada has lost 11 val and kates (9 pilots lost), while he has sunk 1 BB, 1 DD 4 MSW 2 SC 2 AK 1 AO and 2 AVD confirmed, and damaged countless others. Raver lost a few CLs and a CA south of Kendari when my betties launched too. Expensive for him.

He forgot about the new sending DDs in bombardment groups and ordering the dds not to take part in the bombardment (new in the last patch or so).
Another good turn as I display my mastery of the mid ocean intercept. Yamato and her escorts were not at Kendari last turn - you know this because they weren't in the fighting (they could have been in port I suppose, since Raver's little bombardment gorup never actually fired on the base but that is another story).
This turn they intercepted the damaged Canberra in the dark of night and Yamato let the escorts beat at her for practise before ending it all with 3 16 inch shell hits. Awesome. That is 2 CAs this crazy episode at kendari has cost Raver plus another 3 or so damaged.
Then during the day they steamed 4 hexes south at full speed and caught the Thracian all alone in the middle of the ocean. Outranged by quite a ways, Thracian never stood a chance either.
As Admiral Yamada retired in the north he smacked another couple of AVDs and AKs to death, as well as ensuring Brazos didn't make it. Very lucrative as well.
