This was a surprise, but welcome. His troops did not retreat, they had no valid supply path to follow. He is trying to move them to the SW hex
but I will continue to bomb them and do DAs on them to try and eliminate them as fast as possible.

Not much else, lots of bombing of troops and airfield at Rangoon. Switching all bombers to ground attack.

December 9, 1943

My replay was out of sync with Xarguns. But I think I got things sorted out.
Xargun was sick for a few days, so no turns for a bit.

There were 10 surface battles at Rangoon. I sent in two Naval Bombardment TFs and he sent in
one TF, not sure if it was a bombardment or a surface combat. His did not bombard. I also had a SCTF that moved in this turn.
I had in total 4 CAs, a CL, and 11 DDs. His SCTF comprised 2 CAx and 5 DDs.

I also had some TBs and Attack bombers fly. The TBs hit nothing as usual, but the Attack bombers put some bomb hits
on his CAs and one of his DDs.

According to Tracker, he lost 2 CAs and 3 DDs while I lost the CA Shropshire.
He tried to bomb my TFs at Rangoon, but failed. 36 Sams and 39 D4Y4 Judy DBs hit nothing.
He also sent in Franks on LRCAP over Rangoon, it did not work out. Tracker shows he lost 55 aircraft in air-2-air while I lost 18.
I did lose a number of aircraft to ops, a number of TBs as to be expected.

Then the ground combat at Rangoon was good but a surprising event

For some reason his troops retreated to the swamp hex West of Rangoon. That hex does not have a valid supply path
and the replay says they were retreating to Chiang Mai. One of my Armoured Brigades was set to reserve( pursuit ) and it followed
the stack. I am going to do a DA there, he is out of supply and disrupted, so maybe what I have will be enough.

I've had the AI retreat to that SW hex before and I've never seen them move after that. They'd slowly disappear.

Against a human, though, I'd wipe them out. You wouldn't want them traipsing around Burma. Hopefully the armored brigade will be enough.

I have lots of bombers in the area and an Infantry Division moving to the hex. It was a surprise, I didn't think they would retreat at all.

Nice results on some semi-important combatant vessels. Had to laugh out loud when I saw these:
DD Mike Solli
DD PaxMando
It usually is not good news for the Allies when Mike Soli is 'on fire'!

More Variants - The Allies ride again - No xargun please

Post by Nomad »

December 11, 1943

Xargun had a hard time finding Japanese themed names for his additional DDs. He did pick some interesting names.

Not a lot happened today. Some light bombing around the map. I had a port attack scheduled as a secondary mission for my DBs
in the DS(s) that would be about 640 or so DBs, but it seems that the weather scrubbed them.

I see there's no supply malus for those troops near Rangoon. There must be a secret supply dump in the swamp. ;)

That they don't have, not sure why, there is no supply path that I know of. We will see in a few turns if they still don't have one.
He might be dropping supply from somewhere.

Another slow day. Some bombing here and there.

Most of my troops in Burma at in Rangoon with 600,000+ supply, a Command HQ and at rest. They have a lot of disabled devices( mostly infantry )

Another quiet day. Bombing of his troops West of Rangoon continues, I set the Armoured Brigade to do a DA.
It has recovered its 3 destroyed tanks and has no disruption. My bombing has disabled a number of devices and
destroyed some guns, so we will see.

I lost a DD off of Sarmi but sank an xAK off Davao

My bombers in Burma flew. My Infantry Division made it to the hex West of Rangoon, a DA ordered for next turn.

I guess I should have analyzed what CaptBeefHeart posted earlier. There is a supply path from Rangoon to Chiang Mai that
goes West from Rangoon around Basarin to Chiang Mai. Now I know and will plug it. It works for me since those enemy units
have now retreated to a clear terrain hex. My bombers will have a field day bombing them.

Bombing in Burma. Xargun sent some Franks on LRCAP over the target hex and I lost a few Wellingtons that
arrived before the sweeps and escorts. But after that we knocked down some Franks. He also swept Pegu
and we both lost some fighters, about equal numbers. Over Kwangchowan my Chinese LRCAP shot down some
bombers, I have Chinese aces and some that could transfer to TRACOM. 8-)

More of the same, my bombers hit his troops in Burma, he did not contest the bombing raids.
I destroyed a good number of devices, they are getting weaker.

I have many divisions and brigades in Rangoon in rest mode to rally the troops. They are getting
there.

In China I have supply moving in from Burma, it is still a trickle, but it is helping. I am adding a good
number of devices( mostly infantry ) and still doing some upgrades. When I do get a major supply
line into China, they will be fairly strong.
