Wonder if he's the son of Gen. Holland (Howlin' Mad) Smith of WWII (A) fame?ORIGINAL: Grollub

Moving forward is only a good idea if one is pointed in the right direction. If you aren't sure I would strongly endorse apathy and 3 hr. lunch breaks.
Anybody remember the General's name that when asked about retreating in Korea, modded the old Marine line...
"Retreat? Hell, we're just attacking in a different direction!"
Major General Oliver P. Smith, commanding the 1st Marine Division.
ETA: He's also being credited with the quote below. It's debated though if it really was him or somebody else.
"Sir! We're surrounded!!"
"Excellent! Now we can attack in any direction"
Bring me the head of Diego Garcia...and the Mayor of Addu Atoll too!

Kaga and Soryu are missing from that list.
Right, but what about all the seaplane tenders convertible to CV's in Scenario 2?

Elegant bridge. Looks like they hired an Anglo architect. Are you chaps going to share the bridge like the carriers?

RE: Hearts and Minds
Hmmm -- that Wikipedia article will have to be updated to reflect that fact that this area was graced with a visit from Admiral Lord Sprior, on leave from his duties in Malaya, in 2012. I bet the traffic there is a darn sight better than in London these days.[:)]

I had a dream I went crazy in the GI lab while under sedation, punched out the doc and nurses and then went running around naked until that cop from UC Davis Tazered me. Here is my take. The running around naked part is conducting amphibious landings without the carriers and the cop from UC Davis is the Jap carriers. It is therefore a cautionary tale.
I had a plan to sing "Oh sweet mystery of life at last I found you" when they inserted the scope but they stuck a bite block in my mouth and gave me a "shed load" of Versed. Killjoys. Get this, the doc gives all the keepsake photos from the study to Stalker Girl because I was still looped and now she is threatening to post her favorite which is a shot, from the inside, of the scope ascending from the nether regions and the camera making a U-turn, pointing South (true), with the scope tightly gripped, if you will. I think he (the doc) was really proud of the shot like it was a picture of the rare snow leopard in the wild or something. Stalker Girl was giggling like a 5 year old when she showed me. "This is your ****, eheheheheheh". [8|] Thank God we dont have a scanner that works.
Anyway, I fear I may have overshared. Back to the war. Air losses from the 27th. The ground losses are from Koepang but there are very heavy Tojos losses, from the LYB sweep over Namlea, from the P-38 sweep over Koepang and from LRCAP duels over Burma.

Doing a little geneaology yesterday. I found my dad's great grandfather, Zemerri Mandrake, born in 1846 in the Indiana Territory. The Mandrake side goes dark there except for the knowledge that his father was born in Kentuckey. I think I found one of Zemerri's cousins, Pinkney Mandrake, who is described in the 1860 census as "Idiot", age 22, living at parents home. The last column of the 1860 census is "Whether deaf, dumb, blind, insane, idiot, pauper or convict" [:D]

Namlea: I'm surprised JJ tried the same sweep attack at Namlea. This appears to be more to our favor. Something must have delayed the carriers as they were ordered to stand off 40 mi. S of Namlea? The CAP is all land based.
Morning Air attack on Namlea , at 76,108
Weather in hex: Light rain
Raid detected at 16 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 4 minutes
Japanese aircraft
Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 28
Allied aircraft
P-40B Warhawk x 13
P-40K Warhawk x 20
F4U-1 Corsair x 10
Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-44-IIa Tojo: 5 destroyed
Allied aircraft losses
P-40B Warhawk: 1 destroyed
P-40K Warhawk: 1 destroyed
A Marine Regt continues to disembark. The JJ surface group North of Namlea was wrecked last turn and the survivors likely withdrew. Again there is no anti-shipping attack.
Ternate: F4F recon squadron moved to Boela to recon Ternate. If it is empty, the always cheerful 503rd PIR will land tomorrow.
Kendari: The B-24's from Darwin switched targets and found Kendari with no CAP (they were busy sweeping over Namlea)
Morning Air attack on Kendari , at 70,106
Weather in hex: Light cloud
Raid spotted at 20 NM, estimated altitude 17,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes
Japanese aircraft
no flights
Allied aircraft
B-24D Liberator x 62
Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-44-IIa Tojo: 1 destroyed on ground
A6M3a Zero: 2 destroyed on ground
Allied aircraft losses
B-24D Liberator: 1 damaged
Japanese ground losses:
10 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Airbase hits 22
Airbase supply hits 20

Looks like Ternate has aircraft. Let's hope they are just recon and there are just ground support guys in diapers as a garrison.
The PB4Y's don't seem to want to fly over Manado for 3 days in a row? Hmmm?
More transports at Lunga. I think JJ is pulling ground troops back having realized the effort is not in the Solomons.

Have u guys considered bestowing the Presidential unit citation award on 503rd PIR? seems they have earned it.
