BTW - (pop rocks started me thinking): have you guys heard of the Mentos (candy) - Diet Coke "cannon"?

Apparently (iirc) you drop Mentos into the Diet Coke (2 liter) and (after shaking, i think) it EXPLODES out of the bottle about 10-12 feet into the air (depending on ambient temperature). It will pretty much empty the bottle. Several videos are floating around the Net of this - (including one at NPR, although i haven't checked it out...)

Thats what Sir Sprout of Brussells (also known locally as "Cabbage Head") said just before he was beheaded. A distasteful scene that aptly lended itself to the ugly icky smelling and worse tasting vegetable that carries his name.

Dunno - maybe Diet Coke is "traditional", or maybe more fizzy than other sodas... They talked to some chemist (on NPR) who was pretty surprised by the violence of the reaction...

i meant "traditional" for purposes of this experiment - i.e., it worked once, so people keep on using it (without experimenting with other sodas).
