Which one was that?

Luftwaffe - Creating the Operational Air War 1918-40, by James Corum.

Purported to destroy a slew of the myths about the inter- and early-war Luftwaffe, it's poorly argued and written. Call me old-fashioned, but if you want to debunk "conventional wisdom", you have to present evidence to the contrary. The author fails to do so.

He's an obvious Luftwaffe fanboy, and it shows.

One gets out of a book what one expects. I found it well argued, objective and thought provoking. Aspects of his arguments show up in other texts, including Bergstrom and Shores.

I agree with Woody.

[DuckofTindalos]

We'll have to distinctly disagree there.

Wow, let me grab my cup....

Good. You'll need it....for the uncontrollable drooling that such a dose is likely to result in.

He does come across as a Luftwaffe fanboy (which I am not), I will give you that. But his evidence and conclusions are none the worse for it.

So, which of ya'll oldsers out there saw the recent highly (and annoyingly) touted Prisoner series opener, and think it utterly blew dead bears, when ya compare it to Patrick McGoohan's Prisoner by ITC on PBS and BBC 3 (maybe?).

I wanted to like it. But it sucked a big one. I was disappointed to say the least and did not finish watching it.

Whenever I read a Lee quote in a book, I hear Shelby Foote's voice. Kind of like reading Chris's posts with a Stewie voice.

Got every book Shelby ever wrote. And watched his old TV programs and listened to that rich, thick, Mississippi accent. Oh, yeah, this is a believeable man.

I actually met and talked with Mr. Foote a few times over the years ( he lived in Memphis ). I have a writer friend who got to know him and was lucky enough to tag along a couple of times. This was back in the 90s. Very nice man, soft spoken. I have read just about everything he has written, 'tho his multi volume civil war history is my favorite by far.

Considering your obsession with ice hockey, one finds it difficult to believe that you are a native Carolinian yourself... [:'(]

He's not. He's a Norwegian batchelor farmer. From Minnesota. Nuff said. [:D]
