The photo was obviously taken here in the northwest, but it looks very much like a facility we have south of Olympia - though I can't picture for the life of me why you would come so far to ride your horse.

It's the Eventing course at Northwest Equestian Center in Rainier WA.

It is a decent sized haul but there arn't alot of regulation Eventing courses lying around the Puget Sound region. [:)] It's also expensive to rent so we pool our resources and make a weekend camp of it during the summer. I was kept busy that weekend riding not only the GF's horse but also being the catch rider for the other students she was teaching.

You're shorter than I pictured you. Then again, maybe Ty is just a really big horse. [:D]

he's a big tall dorky Thoroughbred. But he's fearless over jumps and obstacles.

That is the place I was thinking about. It is right next to the Chehalis Western Rail Trail - a paved bike path that I ride on a regular basis. I thought that it looked like it, but was thinking that you wouldn't be coming down this way to ride your horse.

They also host a Civil War encampment every year (or at least they used to).

All thoroughbreds are dorky looking. Too-thin legs for too-big bodies. Arabians are the best looking horses IMO.

Yeah, I like Arabians too. My daughter's first horse was an Arab.

When I was in junior high school I was attending a school in Ashland, Virginia - just down the road from Meadow Stables. Junior high school is the time when boys start showing a real interest in the fairer sex, but in seventh grade all the girls would talk about was Riva Ridge. In eigth grade all they would talk about was Secretariat (one of my classmates ended up buying one of his colts for 250K). I developed an extreme dislike for horses in those years.

IMO Arabians are WAY too high strung. They are the French poodles of the Horse world. I'll stay with the American Quarter Horse, thank you.[:D]

My holiday start at 1pm Friday. Today I've been told I have to be on call Tue and Wed next week when I'm supposed to be off. Of course I won't get those days back but I will get - gasp!- £30 a day to be on call. So I had to sell my days off for £30 each or be invited into the office on those days instead. [:@]

On the positive side, at least you're getting something for being on standby. Unlike your days with the Andrew where you'd probably be on standby for nothing...

Erm...I was speaking about visual appearance. I've not experienced enough horses to know their personalities. [8D]

As I recall, quarter horses were bred to be docile and hard working, whilst Arabians were bred for war. High strung would be a good quality in a war horse, methinks.

I disagree here.. a high strung horse would be more likely to throw the rider when it hears nearby explosions, whereas a docile horse would be steady. Traveller was an excellent example of the latter...

EDIT: I am obviously thinking of the post-gunpowder era or warfare!!
