No, standing in the aisle staring blankly at vegetables. Making hard lefts from the far right side into the center zone. Standing in front of a sample station with their fat arses hanging out in the street. Crowds of idiots all living in their own little fantasy world.

I hate crowds and I hate crowds of idiots even worse.

NYC is definitely not for you. It seems that every other part of the country ships their idiots here in bunches to ease up the "idiot quotient" in their places of residence.

My most embarrassing reading moment was on the London Underground after a long few hours drinking on the train down from Glasgow.

Taking a quick break from my "vacation" - Tithe. [&o]

Almost have the house and food ready for the big dinner tomorrow.  Vacuming and then digging out the extra leaves for the dining room table are all I have left for tonight.  First, some take out food for my son and I.  [:D]

Actually, I worked for a year in NY. Loved it as a place to work. Would never live there. Oddly enough, there were certainly crowds, but they always seemed to be headed somewhere. I can deal with that. Dodge them. Head elsewhere. Join up and have a party. It's the ones who park on their asses with nowhere to go and no purpose and no destination that piss me off to no end.

Loitering is the ultimate sin. Give me a gun and a loiterer and he is dead. Promise. Have purpose in life. You want to loiter, go home and sit on the pot. I won't care. Roll around on the sidewalk in the fetal position where I'm trying to walk and expect a boot in your balls.

She really started to yell at you just because of a book you were reading ? What a dolt. Glad the Bartender threw her out. Her pals should have shut her up.

The scary thing is that this is hardly the first time something like this has happened. This is probably at least the 6th incident down the years, and each time all i was doing was sitting reading a history book. The bartenders at my regular got used to joking about how much of a "troublemaker" I was. My favorite incident remains the a-hole who came down, saw me reading, stepped in front of me and gave me a Nazi salute and a rousing "ZEIG HEIL!"

Usually i don't get annoyed...but that time something snapped. I later walked up to him, bent down to his ear and said...."By the way.....Hitler's dead."

He was so pissed off that he ran up behind me as i returned to my seat and started going off about how i was probably a rabid Iraqi war supporter.

2nd favorite incident was a drunk guy who noticed me reading a 'war book' and started quizzing me, only to keep going off about those "Baztards in Olympia" (aka....our legislative body that governs our fine state)

He got 86'd within 20 minutes of rambing at me, and the bar in general.

All i was doing was sitting there reading a book.....honest.

hmmm.... maybe he's the guy who jumped on my case when I was reading Fire in the Sky while eating lunch at a restaurant downtown. Let's just say that there are a lot of people around here who don't think like we do.

Jeez. Tell us how you really feel. [:D]

When I worked in the city I had to get off the train at Penn station and walk to the office. Now, Penn is on 34th St. Know what else is on 34th? That's right, the Empire State building. You know what's around the Empire State building? A lot of people from Iowa......looking up. [8|]

Maybe people in Memphis just don't care, or we are all " warmongers " here, or maybe just polite. But I have never had a person say anything negative to me about any of the multitude of Miliary History books I have read while eating or sipping alone in bars, diners , resturants, etc. On the contrary. Many years ago I was reading a book about the Korean War and a vet from that era came up and asked me about it. Also I was reading a book about the Normandy Invasion once and a guy about my age asked if it was any good. I think I would be a bit impatient if any knucklehead said something bad along those lines. So I hope it never does.

I was with a mate and we'd stopped off at Baker Street station where there's a news agent. I'd bought an, er, grown up magazine. My mate said, "You're dunk"
"How do you know?" I replied.

There's a pretty aggressive far left wing out here. I knew similar people in both Virginia and Georgia but they weren't as willing to be so confrontational back there (probably worried about getting their butts kicked).

In Olympia we have The Evergreen State College (also known as the Kremlin West) whose students are ready to argue about nearly anything that smacks of "the establishment".

In my case it was just a guy who saw the book and said something to the effect of "Why is it that people have to glorify war?", but not in such nice terminology. My response was along the lines of "We study history in the hopes that we won't repeat the same mistakes. Now kindly leave me alone to read my book."... but maybe not in such nice terms...[;)]
