RE: THE THREAD!!!
It's the quiet before the storm here. The house is clean, the 24 pound turkey is in the oven, my wife is not yet home from work, Pavarotti is belting Christmas tunes, and I have fresh, hot coffee. [:)]
The madness starts around 1200 today, and should be over by around 1800. After washing a ton and a half of dishes, I'll grab a rum drink and toast my dearly departed father who laughed at everything and never had a mean word to say about anyone. He left us 19 years ago today, and I will give thanks for the wonderful years we had together. [:)]
I will also be giving Christmas Thanks for all of my strange, funny, knowledgeable, witty, and overall fantastic Thread Brothers. I get to know you as individuals and as a group, better and better each year, and I hope it continues for many more years. [8D]
Merry Christmas, my Brothers! May you all have a wonderful holiday, full of friends, family, love and joy, and may you always have full torpedo tubes and enough AV support (unless I'm playing against you)! [8D]

Not all places in Denmark are blessed with fine weather this Christmas eve. See if you can guess what this is (no peeking at the file name):
The picture is from the Baltic island of Bornholm, at the opposite end of the country from me. They've got a bit of powder there...
A huge snow drift? [:'(]
And in the middle of it?

RE: THE THREAD!!!
Looks like some sort of vehicle? Is that a headlight poking out of the snow, looks like the thing is tilted into the snow. Some sort of snow clearence thing that didn't work too well?

It's a Danish Army M-113 armoured personnel carrier. When the weather gets this wintry, the Army supplies APCs to maintain ambulance services for critical cases, women giving birth, that sort of thing. This particular "tin taxi" had to give up.

When I worked in the city I had to get off the train at Penn station and walk to the office. Now, Penn is on 34th St. Know what else is on 34th? That's right, the Empire State building. You know what's around the Empire State building? A lot of people from Iowa......looking up. [8|]
Trust me. I know. I lived right on the corner of 34th and Broadway.

My most embarrassing reading moment was on the London Underground after a long few hours drinking on the train down from Glasgow.
How so ? Did someone come up to you and say something on the train ?
I was with a mate and we'd stopped off at Baker Street station where there's a news agent. I'd bought an, er, grown up magazine. My mate said, "You're dunk"
"How do you know?" I replied.
"It's upside down"

RE: THE THREAD!!!
Just had a couple nights away from the kids in the Riverwalk area of San Antonio with Mrs. Chickenboy. Very relaxing and pleasant time.
Back into the breach this afternoon. Last minute Christmas shopping, vigil mass with the kids tonight, the usual familial insanity tomorrow. It will be fun to watch the kids under the Christmas tree...[8D]

Comrade red mouse, where there's presents there will be kids. Under the tree, in the crack of the sofa, hanging from the bannister, etc. Haven't you ever been around kids at Christmas, dude?

Macy's.....nice. [:D]
Theyve improved it somewhat since then. Closed off that whole bit to traffic and made it a sort of pedestrian promenade.

Actually, no. [:D]
The last time I was at a "proper" Christmas gathering was back in college when my then-GFUs family invited me over. And all of their kids were grown already. Some of them quite nicely. [:D]
My favorite story about them, though, comes from Thanksgiving. Everyone sits around the table. Her dad looks around with a strange sort of twinkle in his eye and says "Yury, would you like to say grace"? After about 5 minutes of laughing, sanity was restored.
