I bought a download version of a game from steam a few months ago, now the desktop icon and the entry into steam are broken. Steam is insisting on some byzantine procedure for making proof of purchase. Like they didn't already know I had purchased their product/service.

Have you contacted Steam support? It does take some time but they will help you with your problem.

Have you contacted Steam support? It does take some time but they will help you with your problem.

They usually don't pay you much attention. I have been going round with them on returns for a couple months now. They referred me to their policy on returns and I am 100% complying, but they still have their "special" terms that are not in print. [8D] They still suck.
