Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Thanks for a fun and exciting game Dmitry.
If you get the opportunity to play a game with Dmitry, take it. He's an awesome player, ferocious on the counter-attack and meticulous on defense. I rarely found an easy opening. He quickly responds with his moves, regularly returning a move or more per day.
I thought the early surprise UK attack on Japan was an interesting strategy and completely legitimate move. And like Dmitry said, it's not an automatic win. I hope the developers don't stop the strategy. They just need to adjust the consequences of the strategy, like USA mobilization and UK morale. As Elvis mentioned, the strategy opens up the Pacific to lots more action and that's good for the game.
Take a look at the AAR I'm writing for the Dmitry/LoneRunner match (End of the Japanese Empire). I talk about the decisions behind my moves and cover some of the cool tactics we each employed. I think you'll especially appreciate Dmitry's impressive amphibious assaults which destroyed some of my "impregnable" positions. And I'll show how I effectively responded to those tactics.

Thanks Dmitry and LoneRunner for sharing your game and thoughts. I very much enjoy the AAR, always a pleasure to follow a veterans' fighting.

New ELO game started:
HamburgerMeat (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies). The idea is to make a detailed AAR in the near future...
Additional house rules:
- No Japanese attack against the USSR until Japan attacks the USA.
- No early UK attacks in the Pacific against Japan or any other Pacific Nation until Japan attacks the USA/India.
- No use of the Japanese/US Navy as early 1940-41 scouts in the Pacific/India Ocean/Arabian Sea.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
ELO Ended:
ThunderLizard11 (Axis) defeats Scoldgamer (Allies) - Allies resign Sept 44. Russia on verge of collapse but still holding. Allies land in Netherlands and push into Rhineland but starting to get pushed back as Germans deploy panzers. Turkey a real battle ground as Allies move up from Syria. India under seige and China holding strong. Americans strongly garrisoned Pacfic. Great game by Scoldgamer.
New ELO:
Rematch: ThunderLizard11 (Axis) versus Scoldgamer (Allies)

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
I'm trying to work out the latest monthly update and i'm not sure how to record theseElvisJJonesRambo wrote: Tue Apr 05, 2022 5:21 am Calling it quits on the following. The "Resigns" I think I'd win, mostly newer players. On the others, posting as Loss.
Game #144 [Resign] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs BubbleBox (Allies) --- Axis is crushing, no real point playing out. China is toast. Russia being worked over. Not gonna call it a win.
Game #145 [Resign] ElvisJJonesRambo (Allies) vs BubbleBox (Axis) --- Allies held Paris until early 1941. Germans behind. Not gonna say it's a win, resign.
Game #146 [Resign] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs sappershade (Allies) --- Allies getting crushed all over. Not gonna play it out. Not gonna call it a win. Resign
Game #147 [LOSS] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs ThunderLizard (Allies) --- Same shit. Took Moscow, Stalingrad, but once game hits turning point, impossible for Axis to win. Game is in Early 1944, Germans/Japs are in good shape, but impossible to win once American forces which are dumping & dying to buy time.
Game #148 [LOSS] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs petedalby (Allies) --- Had fun with massive battle in Med Front, but cannot win this way. Will lose on points.
Game #149 [LOSS] ElvisJJonesRambo (Allies) vs KlasE (Axis) --- Forgot to move pieces or reinforce multiple times. British were leaving Suez, didn't move them. Forgot to reinforce Hawaii. Forgot to move China piece. Toast. No point. Too many games. I lost.
Game #150 [LOSS] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs Beriand(Allies) --- Had fun fighting in MedFront, but can never win that way. Germans are toast. The usual will happen. Won't be able to take out Russia, then American Bombers and MMPs.
I'm happy to register the LOSSes
but what about the Resign?
Are these even ELO games?

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Thank you EarlyDoors for maintaining the ELO rankings. I know it can be a lot of work collecting and organizing the data.
Let's make EarlyDoors' task a little easier by adopting a standard format for reporting ELO games.
When starting an ELO game, make sure that both players agree that the game will be ELO rated. Don't assume that the other guy knows you only play ELO games.
I thought the Taifun/Jackmck format was good for reporting a new ELO game:
New ELO game:
Race to Victory 39 scenario.
Taifun (Axis) vs Jackmck (Allies). Standard ELO rules.
Make sure to state the scenario being played. Start with the Axis player. State any special rules used for the game.
For reporting the results of a game, I thought Dmitry's format was good:
ELO Ended:
Lonerunner (axis) lost to DmitryN (allies)
Start with the losing player and state the result clearly. In a subsequent paragraph, it would be great if you provided a short description of the battle.
Hope that helps. EarlyDoors, please let us know if you would like any additional information.
