First of all " Thank you for the kind words " I am Humbled.hpalmer wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 11:35 pm Please keep posting!! This is riveting stuff and I hope you know how fantastic your aar is!
The AAR is far from over I had planned to post a number of turns in the last two weeks but events have taken place the forced me to put it on hold.
Also I'm always researching for bits and pieces to augment the actual turns, something to make them interesting so hopefully I will get a post out in the next week or earlier ( famous last words ) just need to write some previews for the turns.
regards

The main drive northeast by 8th and 16th Armee's has stopped, with just all objectives secured orders from OKH for both Armies to stand down from offensive activities, even LIV ArmeeKorps has halted its push towards Konosha.
4th Armee also slows its drive east somewhat though its still about 70 miles from its main objectives on the Volga river, Heinrici however expects that there will be little opposition to the capture of Kazan and Yoshkar-Ola.

In central Russia 3rd Pz Armee continues on a wide front drive despite the presence of its Panzer forces are now spearheading the advance, Reinhardt ordering a steady even advance, Axis forces now only 20 miles from the city with reports of Soviet Tank and Mech units heading west towards our troops.
South of Reinhardt's forces 2nd Armee has all but reached its final positions some units crossing the Volga and preparing defences while other units begin to build fortification behind river.
At the far end of the line 9th Armee keeps a watchful eye as enemy armour is reported to be moving up towards Elton.

In northwestern Germany and The Netherlands there was heavy air activity with the Western Allies conducting large scale Observation Flights on key Industrial centres, recon was not the only operations enemy air forces mounted, Bremen, Cologne, Hannover and surrounding cities which housed manufacturing facilities were hit as was the Ruhr region.
Axis air defences were also out in large numbers to counter Allied raids and while our Industry did take damage so to did enemy bomber formations, a massive Allied air raid on the city of Muenster not only caused damaged to a Armed Forces Military Centre but the cities major airbase was targeted catching a number of squadrons on the ground refuelling and rearming, the attack causing a large number of losses.
In France the Allies again continued with massive air raids across northeastern and northwestern areas the enemy bombing Rail and Communication Centres, the road networks were hit as were airbases across the country in an effort to disrupt supply and communications to forces on the front line at Normandy, our forces at the beachhead front line also came under heavy attack as the enemy attempted interdict Axis Units, Luftwaffe air units were greatly outnumbered as most units had been diverted to the larger air battles over Germany, despite this ground defences have managed to put determined resistance inflicting losses on enemy bombers.

Italian Front
This week Allied air operations sees a blanket coverage of the central and southern mainland of Italy, from the front line to the city of Florence enemy recon aircraft are monitoring road, rail and coastal convoys trying to gather vital information on supply, munitions and troop movements destined for the front.
At the front itself enemy bombers maintain constant ground attacks on the troops as well as command and control centres hoping to disrupt communications and soften up our defensive networks along both major river lines. Axis air defences are concentrating in the Umbria region and out over The Ligurian Sea in an effort to breakup enemy flights before reaching the mainland, however this effort is weakening air defence over the ground fighting zone which is relying almost virtually on Flak Units stationed in forward units.
Fusilier Infantry of the 18th Division which is defending along the Biferno Line south of the villages of Trivento and Montefalcone take cover from the daily air attacks before the enemy begins ground assaults.
The Balkans
The US 15th air force begins another week of bombing Rumanian oil and fuel facilities, which while is hampering our immediate fuel requirements, the massive influx of Oil from The Eastern Front is offsetting any long term problems.

Situation Report July 1st 1944 Turn 53
Army Group C
The situation along the front remains more or less stable though attrition is taking its toll on our forces as more of our units need to be redeployed back to rear areas for rest and refit, reinforcements and replacements are only trickling into the Italian front and something needs to be urgently done as now the main focus is now The Atlantic defence, General Zeitzler sends a priority message to OKW Command requesting more troops, while the AG Commander reviews the front line status, reports come in of more Allied assaults.
On the southern end of the line Von Arnim's Armee comes under heavy attack at Grazzanise again, the enemy launching anther massive combined arms attack at the city's defenders, over the course of the week Allied troops make two attempts to push out the SS Units, with battle raging for control of key Port forward recon units report fresh new enemy troops engaged in the battle, British Fallschirmjäger troops operating in conjunction with US Armour and Infantry while not confirmed by German Intelligence the unit maybe part of a newly arrived Korps possibly The 1st Brit Fallschirmjäger Korps.
Twenty miles northeast of Grazzanise Hube's XIV Pz Korps is also under heavy pressure as a joint British and Polish combined arms operation begins, over 800 tanks clash as the enemy tries to dislodge our forces from there fortified positions in front of the town of Capua, attacking on three fronts including from the enemy controlled town of Caserta hoping to push into the rear of Hube's forces and cut him off from his supply base at Aquino, the enemy launches a total of three assaults but Axis troops hold.
In the centre no major actions by the enemy this week apart from artillery clashes leaving 14th Armee some time to replenish ammunition and supplies, however on the Adriatic Coast Vietinghoff's men are not given any relief as Commonwealth forces supported by French and Polish units launch repeated attacks against Termoli, LXXIV ArmeeKorps defending the city faces three direct assaults over the week, 12th SS Panzer Division leading the defence forcing the enemy to fall back.South of the Termoli battle the British attempt a flank attack on Straube's troops hoping for a breakthrough to advance towards Vasto and cut off the defenders at Termoli, with only 64 Panzer's and facing nearly 350 enemy tanks the Allied attack is held up.

Paris 0300 Hours
At His Headquarters at the Hôtel Le Meurice General Paul Bader Commander In Chief of Army Group B makes his final assessment of the plans of the operation code named " Lüttich " three ArmeeKorps are tasked with attacking the Allied beachhead and hopefully splitting enemy forces into containable pockets then destroying the enemy piecemeal. The landing site designated by the Allies as Gold where the beach side town of Fecamp is situated is the centre of Axis operations. Capturing the town and beach would isolate possibly two enemy Divisions from the main invasion force. Generalleutnant Traugott Herr's LXXVI Pz Korps, General Leo Geyr Von Schweppenburg's LVIII Pz Korps and General Sepp Dietrich's I SS Pz Korps have been assigned to the operation.
Normandy 0400 Hours
At the town of Lisieux 40 miles from the front Major August Seidensticker Commander of the 504th Heavy Panzer Battalion ( LXXVI Pz Korps ) waits for the expected order to begin the assault on the Normandy beachhead, the veteran unit having fought with Generalfeldmarschall Rommel's PanzerArmee Afrika in North Africa in 1943 returned to Europe when the Armee was evacuated in July to reinforce Germany's mainland defences. Confidence is high among Seidensticker's men as they prepare for battle.
Normandy 0500 Hours Operation Lüttich:
General Bader gives the order, Herr and Von Schweppenburg launch there first assault with over 90,000 men and nearly 700 Panzer's, hitting the three Divisions of the Brit VIII Corps in a two front attack, there is heavy fighting for the town and on the beach itself also a major assault takes place for control of airfield near Fecamp, after taking heavy casualties our forces are held and are forced to withdraw and regroup.

Normandy Operation Lüttich:
After two days of heavy fighting for control of Gold beach the Allies are able to contain our attacks, Herr and Von Schweppenburg reorganise there troops and commence a second attempt to dislodge the defenders at Fecamp this time supported by General Gustav Von Zangen's LXXXIV ArmeeKorps, the Panzer's try to punch through the enemy defenders fortifications, Allied forces once again thwart our attack after 2 days and Generaloberst Friedrich Dollmann ( 7th Armee ) orders a halt to further assaults, casualties on both sides are high from bitter fighting.
Just outside the town of Evreux Captain Michael Wittmann's Panzer's prepare for battle, the unit keen to get into battle having been in the south of France when the initial Allied landing took place. Despite the early success in retaking St-Valery Axis forces had been on the defensive just managing to hold off major Allied attempts to breakout into the French interior. News of the failed assaults reaches Sepp Dietrich's HQ along with orders from Dollmann to advance towards Fecamp and assault the enemy landing site in a coordinated attack with Von Schweppenburg. Both units ordered to launch a two pronged assault with the SS attacking the town directly while the LVIII PZ Korps attacks the airfield and beaches, there is close quarter fighting on the beaches and street battles as elements of the US 8th Division try to hold Fecamp but are overwhelmed, Von Schweppenburg secures the airfield and the Allied position finally collapses.
Bitter fighting at Fecamp as the 49th SS Panzergrenadier Brigade and the 501st SS drive the US defenders back
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6v60ks ... WL&index=1
While the situation remains fluid at Gold beach the Allies have three cutoff Divisions which now face possible destruction or will be forced to evacuate to there fleets in the channel, the fierce fighting in the last week has caused large losses on both sides and also drained the strength of our units from the beach assault, the situation is far from secure at Gold beach.

Dietrich is able to hold the first assault but the enemy launches a second attack which is to strong and 1 SS Pz Korps is forced out of Fecamp leaving the enemy to recapture the landing site and airfield.
The US VII Corps attempts follow up attacks but the line stabilises, while Dietrich's men fight to hold Gold beach Erich Marcks who had taken over the defences at the Port of La Havre also comes under attack by the US VII Corps, an armoured assault is repulsed by the defenders. The Northern front for the most part remains quiet, The Soviets seem for now to have chosen to capitulate control of the area as they have sparse forces along the front line, what limited enemy units that push towards our lines are either attacked and destroyed or fall back rapidly due to no support. We are beginning to make head way on the resupply front as major rail gauges are being replaced but there is still much to be done in that area, 8th Armee and 16th Armee remain static apart from XXVII ArmeeKorps which is advancing in conjunction with 4th Armee's XII ArmeeKorps towards the major city of Yoshkar-Ola, recon patrols screening ahead of the main columns report the presence of a Tank Corps taking up defensive positions along the Kokshaga river 20 mile west of the city, with no Infantry support our forces capture the city and encircle the enemy unit.
Further south the main forces of 4th Armee maintain a steady advance towards Kazan and Ulyanovsk, here opposition is light as aerial recon has spotted enemy units digging in at various towns, but the size of the enemy units are brigade strength only and should be easily dealt with, still General Heinrici has ordered his Armee to continue on a wide front to maintain an almost unbroken line with all combat units to quickly respond to any enemy threat.

On the Saratov front 2nd Armee continues to strengthen defences along the Volga river, 1st Baltic Front at this stage can barely muster any credible size force bar a few infantry brigades which pose no threats.
At the end of Army Group Centre's line 9th Armee settles into building a network of permanent fortifications along the Volga river and to support construction units in their rail repairs, the two cutoff enemy units 20 miles west of Krasny Yar are finally destroyed, the enemy now having only small groups of resistors roaming the countryside which will be dealt with by security units leaving 9th Armee free to deal with any attacks by the 2nd and 4th Ukrainian Fronts.
