I just now captured Smolensk. I feel like I'm way behind schedule. It's already the middle of August and I'm not yet close to Moscow.

Geographically you may be behind, but you are not being constantly counter-attacked and ruined by attrition. Plus you know what the winter brings.
If you're STILL making Panzer IIs after seeing your first T-34... you're probably going to lose.

Agreed. I have 30.9K HRS's and I don't want it to sink much lower so I'm monitoring it. The Soviet Winter Offensive is so tramatic that I'm treading on pins and needles. I'm going to try backing up all my troops with all the arty I own this time.

Here we are at T16 R1 and there's a stiff fight going on on the lefthand side of this image at the middle all the way across the map. Meanwhile I have a recee unit tracing a path south and aims to cut off all the Soviet units from their supply path to make the take down easier. I don't know how much more south he can move but I'm going to make the effort.

It still T16 R1 and I've already started bombarding Odessa's fortress at the northeast hex where there's only a single unit defending and I'm accumulating arty close by and my strongest units are adjacent to the target so I'm optImistic about gaining the hex. Meanwhile I'm attacking Nikolayev where there is only a single CD gun defending. Next will be Kherson.

It still T16 R1 and I've managed to push the Soviets backward and I made a breakthrough on the east side and I've driven a division across all the rivers except for one. I intend to defend behind that river until Leningrad falls. I'm making progress on the west side and I've trapped the Soviet ships in that corner of the map on the left side of the image. Meanwhile, I've got my strongest Panzer units pushing east and I've built a screen extending south from the coast.

It looks like you have a France 1940 thing going on in Finland without the tanks. But then you had to go and ruin the Viipuri-as-the-new-Dunkirk part.

Did somebody forget to tell Elmer to leave the boats at Kronstadt?

Yes, and yes. Those ships should be gone shortly.

It's now T18 R1. Aug. 17, 1941.
These are my expected reinforcements and I have looked up the hex and now I know where I need to go to get more reinforcements.

It's now T17 R5, the last phase of the turn just before I end it. I'm enthused about what's happening north of Leningrad. I've managed to get at least one of my units to oppose the Soviet units almost everywhere.

Just east of the Prypet Marshes I've run into an area that doesn't appear to have any defenders in front of me. That's just tempory as soon there will be lots of Soviet units.

That recon unit that's headed south is resting for a turn before setting off again. He's the one way out in front of my troops.

And down south I've run out of defenders again which means next turn will be productive. I've gained that northeastmost hex at Odessa and now I'm down to a single hex to attack from again. And the stack opposing me is red crowded it's got so many defenders in it. That means I need a lot of arty to take it down. With some bombardment by air as well.

It's now T18 R6, the last phase of the turn just before I end it. I'm hoping to be able to trap all the Soviet units north of Leningrad and kill them all.

East of the Prypet marshes there's still a spot where there are very few Soviets. But on the other hand I don't have very many units in that same area. I need to move some units in there, enough for a light screen at the very least.

Down south I've reached D-town and I've gotten adjacent to the entrance to Crimea. I got another hex in the Odessa front lines.

It's now T19 R2, and this is what's going on right now. I'm making progress and things are going smoothly. My aim is to trap all those Soviet units against the river and kill them.

It's now T19 R5, and this is what's going on at D-town right now. I'm managed to force my way across the river and a handful of units are already across.

It's now T20 R3, and this is where everybody is right now. I've made progress in the North of Leningrad area. The Finns have pushed the Soviets further south. In the middle I've managed a tiny bit of progress toward Moscow. I'm finding it hard to scrape up some troops to build a screen to the east of the Prypett marshes. But I will eventually. I managed to push further south to the west of Kiev and I captured two crossings further south off there and I made a breakthrough at D-town and now I'm pushing north for Kharkov. I expect Odessa to fall within 10 turns or so. I made a lot of progress in pushing east in the Crimea. So far so good.

Here's what's going on in the Crimea in T22 R1. I've managed to force my way through the left hand side and I'm spreading out from there. Ordinarily I wouldn't park my HQ units adjacent to enemy units as in this image. But what you don't know is that there's another 6 or 7 of them in that stack and the Infantry unit that's attacking it is in the same hex so there's little danger of damage from it. And, I only have to move my HQ unit one time instead of twice when the enemy unit retreats. The rail is repaired all the way to the front lines and supply is okie dokie. So far so good.

Here's what's going on in near Kiev on T22 R4. I've built a screen across the map from west to east and I'm chasing down Soviet units. I've managed to trap a lot of them but most of them are building an MLR behind a river to my east.

Here we are in T24 R1, I haven't moved anybody yet and I've managed to move adjacent to Leningrad and the Finns are at the stop line. My advance has stopped having to deal with heavy resistance. The good news is that down south I've trapped about 90% of the Soviets up against the river. I'm repairing the rail as I go so supply has been pretty good overall. I've captured all of Odessa except for two hexes two stacks of Soviet units. I'm spreading out, filling the Crimea converting the hexes as I go.

Here we are in T24 R3, and this is the situation near Leningrad right now. The Finns just gained a hex on the left side of their MLR and it's the last hex on the stop line that they can use. I'm just about to eliminate the stack by itself three hexes east of Leningrad. Once that's done I can use some engineers to leap the river to get into the Leningrad area. I need a lot of arty to gain the port so I'm going to move a lot of my HQ units within range of Leningrad.

It's now T27 R1 and I managed to move adjacent to Leningrad, I captured Kiev, and Odessa finally fell. I discovered to my horror that I have only 21K of HRS's and I need at least 29K of HRS's to survive the Soviet Winter Offensive. So I'm not attacking this turn in order to fill up the ranks.

It's now T28 R1 and I'm attacking Leningrad. I discovered to my horror that I still have only 21K of HRS's and I need at least 29K of HRS's to survive the Soviet Winter Offensive. So I need to reduce the operational tempo. After I capture Leningrad I'll stop attacking.
