not that impressive, to be honest...

I've noticed Kristina Savitskaya in Heptathlon. Very nice! [8D]

Yes! She's very cute. [:)]
Have you seen her hair today? Hmmm... [:)]

Awesome job! [&o]

How long did it take you?

Come to think, how did that hole come to be anyway?

That is culturally insensitive and politically incorrect. I demand you remove that at once! [:D]

Edit: What's the diff between the red and yellow bomb icons?

It's an alright job, in bad light from a few feet away [:D] It took a couple of days including the backing plate for it. Mostly due to the fact I'm out of practice with metalwork skills.

As for the hole, I'm not exactly sure how it arrived, there was an access panel there but the access hole had been enlarged so it needed a new panel.

A view along the snout. This is the shortest of the Spit noses, the Griffon engines just seem to go forever!

Looks very much like a work in progress. Is it being entirely restored or are you guys just touching up some blemishes?

She's a definite non-flyer. I think she was left with us whilst 1 Sqn were in hiatus. Whilst she was with us she was stripped down and various work was done to her, now that 1 Sqn are being reformed the Spit is getting a repaint and then sent up to Scotland to be with her owners. She looks a bit rough as she's not flown for years and years. Sat on trestles and jacks at the moment with no undercarriage. I think the plan is to take the wings off next week and send her on her way.

She was delivered to 1 Sqn two days before (iirc) VE day, when 1 converted onto jets they kept her and she's been a part of their museum collection ever since. Even has an almost new Griffon in there.

That's cos it's a shufti kite and she would've been designed for taking photos. So that hole is where the photographer used to sit, when the Spit got over the target the pilot would roll through 45 degrees so the guy in the back could use his camera to take his pictures.

Nope. Obviously it had to be a little chap around 5' 6" or so and no more than 120lbs, there isn't much room back there and it's impossible to bail out in an emergency. It also upsets the centre of gravity a bit, although that is partially offset by the fact the Griffon is such a big engine and it's so far forward along with the huge 5 bladed prop.
