We had a kid on our golf team back when I was in High School, last name Knopf.  His real first name was Andrew, but it took my young, naive self a while to realize why several other members of the team kept telling me he preferred to go by his nickname, Jack (at least I was smart enough not to try calling him that)!

Another RN tradition is giving 'nick-names' to everyone, sometimes using famous people with the same surname, or a generic name (e.g. Whitey, Spud - see the manual for more common examples). so 'Syd' Lawrence was named in honour of Syd Lawrence

Re the game, this AAR might get one turn per page of posts, but as this is a 2vs2 game (I think[:D]) that is only if they are all on a roll...

Yes, about the turn cycle time. It seems this time it is my fault. I had to work Tuesday night and then Mandrake Jr. got in a fender bender then stalker Gril wrote down the secret formula for Long Island Iced Teas when we were at Joe's Crab Shack......then......we got into a big fight because she threw away my modem...so she took her damn laptaop to work with her [:@][:@]


As God is my wintess, TODAY is the day I am going to buy a thumb drive big enough to transfer AE to my new desktop*! How big a thumb drive do I need?


* I used to have AE on there but Cali, the 100 lb lab mix subjected it to abut 20 G's

The manual that came with my game [pre latest big release last spring] says you need 900 MB hard drive space for the install. That may have increased a little with the new release, but is probably still less than 1 GB. Given that you can get an 8 GB flash drive for under $50, and be sure of having room for your game turns, Tracker, etc. just buy something at least 4GB.

No, the passing wildlife sound pretty much happens EVERY night. It chiefly consists of barking and excited yelping in which both dogs chime in. Never seen a porcupine come around here but everything else you mentioned and possoms and rabbits and bobcats does.

Skunk and government intersection story.

About 3 weekends ago to the top floor of a house on the other street burned. Absolutely beautiful place with a rotunda and everything. If you ever wanted a rotunda in your house, THIS was the place. 10 fire trucks show up with a giant semi-truck hazmat vehicle and a specialized truck to produce breathing air...plus not one, but TWO Bn., commanders. I guess the Regimental commander stayed behind with the atry and band and such.

Well, all the noise scares a skunk from his hide near the house and the poor thing runs out in the street and gets squashed by the hazmat truck. Thre are like 30 firemen standing around doing nothng because the fire is out now, 3 CHiP's, 4 Sheriff Deputies, 2 SoCal Edison trucks...so....naturally, they call the animal control officer, who arrives lights flashing, gets a briefing from one of the Bn CO's, grabs a shovel and tosses the skunk carcass up onto the hill. [:D] I guess you had to have a special shovel, a model L43T-7a carcass scooper.


Postcript on the skunk. That poor thing sat up on the hill for 9 d days in 90 degree weather. I would say on day 5 or 6 the decay smell surpassed the skunk smell. Nasty. Then on the 9th day, something found it and tore it to shreds. Nothing left by a bit of spine and patches of fur. My bet is turkey vultures. I am hoping no mammal woul stoop that low.

I can say with the voice of experience on this matter that there is where the problem started. (Hazmat truck? Meth seems unlikely as recent cooking 'advances' have allowed for a lot more do it your self coverage of supply needs. Seems like somebody was showing the flag in the spendy neighborhoods ahead of ballot initiative time...)

Just like drinking events with Engineers, Lawyers, or Doctors you can never have an even number of same ranked commanders if you don't want the event to end in one of the following- 1)arguments, 2)confusion, 3)tears. With an odd number (other than 1 of course, unless meds are indicated) they tend to turn on each other and fight for dominance leaving the rest of society to carry on.

Dead things on trucks/equipment that get stored in station are generally a bad long term idea. If the building gets warm and you stand in the right spot we have a truck that still, after 5 years, smells like a herd of deer hit at 65mph (this was the single most 'Deliverance' like call I have ever run - I'm getting PTSD symptoms just mentioning it).
