1.41 BETA Update - Please Read if you installed it on 11/26!

Post by puresimmer »

Hey guys, if you downloaded 1.41 before 11:00 PM on 11/26, please re-download the update. I had posted the wrong file. The correct Puresim2k7.exe in your PureSim folder should have a date of 12:12 or 12:13 PM 11/26. If yours if from earlier than that and you have 1.41 installed (look in bottom right corner of main menu) the please re-download the update.

Download the correct 1.41 BETA Update

If you don't you will see an old version of the code where I wasn't quite done with the new pitcher usage AI -- closers will get about 125 appearances a season :)

Also, it looks like I forgot to update the text in the readme file to mention that it was 1.41 (in both the original update and the "fixed" version.

Lastly, this stuff is contained in the readme but I forgot to mention it in my post:

(Additional 1.41 release notes below)

- Installation: PureSim now installs the latest version of the Microsoft .NET Framework (2.0) (You will only see this install if your machine does not already have the Framework. Most people already do, since it is pushed out via Windows Update.) PureSim simply runs Microsoft's official installer to install the framework.

- New: Finalized official support for loading add-ins and expansion packs created using the .NET Framework 2.0 (For example using the freely available Microsoft Visual Basic Express 2005 and Microsoft Visual C# 2005. More updated info coming for modders/developers soon! NOTE: PureSim supports creating add-ins in VB6 and .NET 2.0. .NET 1.x is NOT a supported platform.

- Update: Re-integrated PureSim's add-in download feature with the PureSim server. Expect us to release add-ins and expansion packs over the next few months that you can download and install from directly within the game.

* If you are a skilled developer (VB6/NET/SQL/DHTML) and would be interested in creating add-ins and expansion packs for PureSim, I am currently evaluating a number of options, with one being the ability to add your mods to the public server so folks can discover and download them from within the game. Please send an email to shaun@puresim.com if you are a developer that would be interested in this program, which will also give you access to some additional samples and SDK updates.

There is a ton of undocumented stuff, but it's powerful. To give you an idea of just how powerful it is, the "Schedule Calendar", "Sabermetric Reports" and "Favorite Toy" are all features implemented completely via the SDK, yet they present themseleves as core game features! Again, If you are interested in developing on the platform please send me a note. I'm trying to gauge interest.

Since I switched to 1.41 I get some strange results in my real player association. Suddenly some (very few) pitchers have 20+ ERAs with insanely high numbers for walks (WHIP 4+) and wild pitches. Those pitchers don't have great ratings, but they aren't scrubs either. While those pitchers seem to get demoted sometimes, they are back at the start of the next season. One team has two of those as the #1 and #2 starters.

I started the association in 1900 with real players. 1921 I upgraded to 1.41. Some of the "strange" pitchers were imported many years ago, but they were suddenly signed after the upgrade. Did you change the way pitchers are evaluated?

Even if the game engine produces such strange results there should be some safeguard provision that either forces the AI to release such players or even retires them before they can hurt the overall "feel" of the association.

Here are some numbers for the team with 2 "strangers":

P1: 6 APP, 6 GS, 15.1 IP, 27 H, 36 BB, 37 WP, 20.54 ERA, 45 STU, 5 VEL, 24 CON, 69 END
P2: 9 APP, 6 GS, 13.2 IP, 19 H, 30 BB, 42 WP, 14.49 ERA, 48 STU, 5 VEL, 29 CON, 46 END

One reason I can see why those pitchers are used is that they have the highest END ratings on the team. That indicates a severe problem with the draft AI as there are always numerous starters available in the early rounds. This team drafted 3 players, none of them pitchers.

On a related note, at least for the "strange" pitchers there seems to be a problem calculating minor league ERAs. One example: 36.2 IP, 107 H, 220 BB, 11.54 ERA. I don't think those numbers can be correct.

UPDATE: It seems some problem with walks and wild pitches was introduced. Here are the league leaders (top 3) in my association:

1919: 168, 135, 127 (avg. 205 IP) - 19, 17, 17 (avg. 100 IP)
1920: 134, 132, 123 (avg. 230 IP) - 20, 17, 15 (avg. 110 IP)
1921: 164, 145, 126 (avg. 160 IP) - 31, 20, 17 (avg. 140 IP)
1922: 473, 444, 239 (avg. 90 IP) - 71, 51, 40 (avg. 110 IP)
1923: 371, 305, 261 (avg. 105 IP) - 75, 70, 59 (avg. 80 IP)

As you can see there were always shitty pitchers, but suddenly they became a lot shittier.
