AI?

Post by Uncle_Joe »

Hi all,

Just downloaded and started playing. I'm playing the Grand Campaign as the Russian (all default settings). I'm on the first Operation, first map. We all know and love it...the one with the stream, the bridge and the ford.

I conceded the hills to the AI on day 1. Now, I'm defending the far side of the river. And in the last 2 battles, the AI just mills around in the field just west of the river (below the bridge). It appears to be looking for a way to cross, but there isnt one. So it moves upppp the river a little in the field and then all the troops turn around and move dowwwnnnn the river in the field. Its making no attempts to cross at the bridge. Neither of us has fired a shot. Its troops run a bit, hit the deck, turn around and crawl back (or vice versa). In short, it looks lost.

IIRC, this was exactly what the AI did on this map in CC3 the first time around. And I eventually gave up trying to play the AI because it was no challenge at all and was often an excercise in boredom as the AI thrashed around. I had really hoped that the AI would be enhanced for this release. So far though (from the itsy bit Ive seen), its doing the same old dumb stuff.

So, I'll ask...has the AI been improved (other than armor pathfinding)? Does it just get confused on certain maps?

Thanks!

Update:

After 18 minutes, it finally figured it out a bit. A squad managed to escape the field and try to cross the bridge where it was cut down. But that seemed to 'wake up' the rest of the AIs troops and they actually fought from that point on.

Any idea what is causing that early 'confusion'?

I'd be more interested in the views you have on the new Grand Campaign "Fuger's Ostliche Wut'.  It's at the end of the Historical Campaigns list.

Appreciate all feedback though.

We did not make any comprehensive changes to the AI, but we still think it's better.  I am sure we are going to find out [:)]
