Vista and Cross OF Iron

i have just installed COI from cd onto my newly built Vista Premium PC, Intel 6700 dual core, 4 g ram, nvid 8800
it fails to run and crashes.

i have tried running as admin
in xp and 98 mode
turned off aero
all to no avail
do you guys have any ideas, what i could try next ?
