battleships and dreadnaughts
battleships and dreadnaughts
It says on the game that you can pilot battleships, dreadnaughts and alien vessles but I have yet to see that. I have gone through all the campaigns and I am a vice admiral. I also have not seen any of the criminal ships yet either. When do you get to pilot those ships?
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Salutations,
To the best of my knowledge, there are no battleships, dreadnaughts or alien vessles one can command in the simulations dynamic campaign.
One can only command such vessles if they are added to the simulation via modding the game.
Those classes of ships are listed as part of the ship roster in the games built-in mission editor, but no ships are provided for selection.
In conclusion, one can pilot such ship if they are modded into the simulations. They are simply not part of the games dynamic campaign.

RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Well that sucks. I don't know how to do that lol. I was looking forward to being to pilot huge indestructible dreadnaughts. Plus those Zolon ships are almost impossible to destroy so it would have been cool to pilot one of those and see what it could do.
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Hi,
Consider going on over to www.starshattermods.com and look for mods to download that have such ships in them. Yes, some do.
Oh... it's a myth that any ship is invincible or unsinkable. Ask the Bismark or the Titanic.

RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
I checked out that website but there isn't anything in there for ships besides ones from battlestar galactica. Is there any benefit at all from climbing the ranks anymore then other than personal satisfaction lol.

Wrong... the ships from the Cartel can kick the Zolon's butt with little problem.
Gillbo's mod has some large powerful ships included. Most of the mods listed on the Download page have large ships in them.
You obviously didn't check the mods out very well.
There are also mods listed on the Links page too. Other than that... you are out of luck.
Right. Rank doesn't mean crap outside of the games dynamic campaign.
One can build and command any type ship desired. Still, unless you manually change the ships in the original dynamic campaign, one will be stuck with commanding the ships provided.
You want Battleships, Dreadnaughts etc. in the games dynamic campaign... mod them in. If you can't and or nobody else has done it... you're out of luck. Once you've completed the games dynamic campaign... you've completed it.
You are obviously, just a player. As such, you've experianced all that the dynamic simulation has to offer.

I beg to differ, check out the 4.5 download section...the BBs there do work in 5.0, but dont look all that great with the newer engine. Functionality is not lost though...

RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Okay, I will check that stuff out again. So the 4.5.5 stuff is not a different game just a different version I'm guessing. What are the stratgies to kill a zolon ship faster with say a devestator class cruiser. I think thats the biggest cruiser for the alliance??
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Once I download these mods, what do I do with them to be able to play them in the game. Its a zipped file so I tried extracting it but I don't know what file to copy it into for the game.
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Okay I figured out in the options that I just enable it. But now when I go to play the campaign, the game shuts off and asks me to send an error report before I even get to the missions menu. Sorry for not being the experienced gamer for these things guys but this is starting to annoy me. Its not the first time the game has done this to me over and over.
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Please note: Almost all mods add nothing to the games original campaign. Their ships will not be added to the orginal campaign. Also, if enabled properly or as dictated by the mods directions, none should interfere with the original campaign as you indicated.
Mods usually have a "readme" file with directions. Read them. [:'(]
All mods resident upon the starshattermods.com site has been tested and work properly.

RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Then how do I play these mods?
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Hi,
1. In your games main directory your should have a folder titled "Mods". If you don't have one, create one so named.
2. Copy the mods .dat file into your "Mods" folder.
The .dat file may appear as a Spot file. But that's the mods .dat file.
3. Enter the game.
4. Enable the mod.
5 IMPORTANT! Exit the game.
6. Reenter the game. The mods ships and or missions should then be available for play. If there are included missions... you should find them under custom missions.
Most mods will be playable utilizing the above information.
My Cartel mod comes with some missions and some voice sound files. I give specific directions from within my mod concerning the sound files. They aren't necessary to play the missions or the mod though.
The Battlestar Galactica mods come with missions included. There are music and voice files for the TNS version that can be downloaded and added to the game. I highly recommend them.
Good luck commander. [:)]

RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
With Gillbo's campaign, it says I need to download the fighters and ships mod or something as well. I did that and everything is in the mods folder for the game. The fighters and ships mod has its own folder within the mods folder and the campaign file is also its own folder within the mod folder. When I load operation shinning fortress though the game shuts off. I was thinking maybe I had to copy and paste the gillbo's fighters and ships file into the campaign folder but I'm not sure. Does anyone else know how this particular file is supposed to work. The cartel one worked fine for me and those ships are really cool.
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Sorry I meant it shuts off when I load the operation highland campaign. not shinning fortress.
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
Also how come the .rar files don't work? the .zip ones do.
RE: battleships and dreadnaughts
.Zip and .Rar are two different types of file compression formats.
There are a LOT of craft in Gilbos Mod. It is more of a collection of ships and craft.
The craft with the .dat suffixes can be enabled individually as if they were a individual mods.
The other many craft in their various folders can be loaded as indicated in Gillbos README file.
Not all mods are as simply put together as mine and a few others. With some, one just simply has to know what to do with the files. Although, most provide readme's with directions.
