Trench Allocation

Post by New York Jets »

I understand how purchasing trenches works and their associated costs.

But, I have a question.

How does the player allocate these purchased trenches among his units?

During the strategic phase of each turn you can spend your "trench points" by constructing trenches in a particular hex that you have a national corps in.

Thank you for your time on this matter I appreciate the game designer actually answering questions.

Note that you can only increase the entrenchment level of a hex by 1 in any given strategic phase - ie if it's currently at 0 then you can only make it a 1, if it's 1 then you can only increase it to 2, etc.

If you build a trench and then abandon the hex can you re-occupy the trench later?

Good question - I don't recall - I do know that you never get to occupy your opponent's former trenches tho - all newly conquered hexes have all entrenchments destroyed.

Yes, except as SMK has noted.  Trenches can be destroyed by artillery and occupation.

Also note that if you hover the mouse pointer over an empty hex with trenches present, the trench level will be displayed along the row with terrain info etc towards the bottom of the screen.

If you dig a Trench in a hex with Trench Zero it turns into a Trench 1. That's fine, but if you dig a Trench in a city with Fort Zero, nothing happens, and you've wasted a Trench ?

No - cities are entrenched the same as any other hex - I always end up entrenching the East Prussian cities vs the Russians.

Thanks, the problem for me is the hex still says Fort 0 and no mention of Trenchs.
However, a 1 does appear on the unit in the hex, indicating Trench 1, tada !
