just curious, i'm sure panther aren't making it up

Which scenario are you referring to? You may be seeing attached units.

In the historical scenarios the PIB fields 3 mot. inf coys, a mortar, an artillery and a recon section.

yep, that's a fictional scenario with the PIB having an attached Sqn of the 44th RTR to help defend the hill.
