We have been given orders to dig in and make a stand against the Germans at Tobruk. We have been shoring up our defenses for the past month. We are well dug into the hills on the west side of Tobruk. Our orders are to hold at any cost. We know this is going to be a very tough fight against a very determined enemy. Rommal wants Tobruk as it has been a very big thorn in his side for some time. We know we are to expect a very heavy armored attack today. Have been hearing the engines of his heavy tanks warming up for the last 10 minutes and can expect there push to start any minute.
C CO is dug in on our left flank in the north while our more experienced B CO has been placed in our center as we believe this will be the heaviest attack from there. A CO has been given our right flank in the south.
Each comapny will have a battery of 210mm heavy guns as support. Our guns are sighted in and the range set for cover just to the east of the minefield our engineers laid earlier this month. I have given orders to hold all fire until they are within 600 yard range. Our vis today is 700 this will give our gunners time to track for 100 yards before opening up on them.
Aerial photo I am sending along with this shows our setup. Our men are ready and very eager to engage our hated enemys the Germans. I am sure every man is ready to give his all for country and the King. Ammo and water have been distributed and we are ready for the battle to begin.
At least it is cooled down some this fine clear day. The heat of midday has cooled somewhat as the sun begins to go down. Thats one thing the sun will be in the enemys eyes as they approach our defenses.
