Can't Start Game

Post by Wrathchild »

I decided to buy this since it was on sale. However, I cannot run it. I click on the icon to start the game. It brings up an applet with various options, one of which is Play. When I select play I get an error message:

Run-time error '429':
ActiveX component can't create object

What does this mean and how do I fix it? Can I get a refund for the product since I can't get it to run?

On top of that if I select the Game Manual option, my system kicks a process for Adobe Acrobat Reader, AcroRd32.exe, which immediately starts using 99% of my CPU, and remains like that until I kill the process, but no game manual ever opens.

Has anyone else ever seen this issue? I will also post this in the PureSim forum.

Can't say I am familiar with that error message. Out of curiosity, what operating system do you have and did you get any strange messages when installing? You may want to try unistalling and reinstalling the game again.

I had the same problem awhile back. But, I can't seem to remember what I did to fix the problem. If I remember what I did I'll post it for you.

Reboot, and re-install and you should be fine.

I'm running XP Pro and didn't notice any strange messages when installing. I'll try the uninstall, reboot, reinstall routine. I also had installed the 1.2 patch to see if it made a difference but it didn't.

There are also a couple of hot fixes you should make sure you get too. 1.70a, 1.70b. I'm not posititve but i believe you need to do them seperately. I am not sure if be has the a fix coding in it as well. Let us know how you make out.

I've uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled. Same error. I installed version 1.7. Same error. What's next? Refund? I'm not sure it's worth all of this trouble at this point. I never have problems with new apps.

That didn't help, either. :( I guess this app just won't run on my system for some reason. Who do I have to contact to get a refund? The official Matrix support channel wanted me to jump through hoops just to assist me with this same error. I really don't want to deal with all of that nonsense.

Same here, installation issues with PureSim are quite rare. If you'd like to try another thing for me that would help. Download this debug version of puresim2k7.exe and copy it over your existing one. It should prompt with a detailed error and give you the option to email me the contents. Please do so to shaun@puresim.com

Download debug version

Hopefully this will help me identify the component that is not installed properly.

I downloaded that debug version installer and ran it. Then I tried to run the game again and I get the same error. I can't even get into the game to attempt any debug efforts. I'm willing to keep trying things in an attempt to get it to work, until everyone else is ready to give up.

Maybe I'm installing incorrectly? What are the proper steps to install? I'm installing the purchased version, followed by an immediate update to 1.2. Do I need to install anything else in between?

Hmm. I'm confused. Ok, so we are on the exact same page, do this:

1. Download and Install the latest 1.70 full update.
2. Reboot
3. Copy that debug exe (puresim2k7.exe) OVER the one sitting in your c:\matrix games\puresim baseball 2007 folder.
4. Run the program directly using the "PureSim Baseball 2007 (Quick Start) shortcut, or by double-clicking PureSim2k7.exe in the c:\matrix games\puresim baseball 2007 folder

Sorry for the trouble, this is a strange one :)

Ok. I will follow those steps directly and see what happens. I was having a crossed wires moment there. For some reason, my brain was associating 1.2 as being more recent than 1.7. I think I kept reading it as 1.07. Oy. I'll try again!

I have installed 1.7. However, I don't understand what you want me to do after that. You want me to copy a file over a file that doesn't already exist. So instead I renamed the debug version executable that I downloaded as puresim2k7.exe and when I launch that all it does is run through a little install routine. Can you clarify what exactly you want me to do with file PureSim2007-170b_DEBUG.exe?

Sorry, just run it, and it will install that's fine.

I'd forgotten I made that an installer!

Ok. I run the debug installer. I then execute puresim2k7.exe and it immediately brings up the same error from the original post.

Hmm,

Something is really hosed on your machine, especially if you can't view an Adobe PDF file. Is it possible you are running some sort of aggressive virus scanner software? If so, could you maybe try disabling it and re-installing.

Another question, is this a work computer where you might not have full security rights, or is this your home PC?

Last question, are you up to date with the latest XP updates and IE7 updates?

Hope we can figure this out!

Home system with full rights and all latest XP and IE7 updates.

I will try to do an install with virus scanning disabled.

I forgot to mention: I can open the pdf manual if I do it directly from the PureSim2007 folder. I only encounter the problem when I try to open the manual from the PureSim2007 main window.
