Production Assistant/Templates?

Post by Fintilgin »

I picked this up on a whim, and it looks good so far. I admit, I haven't had much time to play yet, what with the new patch for EUIII, a Crusader Kings AAR I'm working on, the Strategic Command expansion pack, and the Hellgate London beta (it's a good time to be a gamer) but I don't think I'm going to regret buying it. It seems like a lot of fun.

One thing struck me though, maybe I'm missing something, but making units seems kinda fiddly and takes a lot of clicking around. What would be really nice would be some sort of Production Assistant. So, for example, I could create a custom 'template' of say 60 Inf, 10 morters, 8 machine guns, and 5 trucks and call it 'Standard Infantry'. Then I could just assign a city a 'template', telling it to make 'Standard Infantry' (or 'anti-tank infantry' or 'air strike squad' or whatever) and it would create the nessecary peices and automatically drop them into a unit for me. It might take a few turns to finish up a larger unit, but it could tell me in the start of turn production summary that X number of 'Standard Infantry' had been finished, and I could just get on with the job of fighting.

That would be so awesome, especially on large scenarios, and it save so much time clicking and dragging and micromanaging production.

Any chance of seeing something like this? :)

As it is i think its ok. I dont think your meant to change production all that much.
Try instaed of setting it to full artillary for 1 round to spread it out and plan a littile ahead for your needs.

I agree if you play with the production as if it was civilization or some other such strategy game when the interface leaves something to be desiered, but i dont think that was planned.

The production management as it is now is a feature i like very much.
You have to adjust it yourself and this is good. You can react on changed situations.

For example:
You set via your templates a coastal city to produce a complete taskforce for lets say 10 turns.

While that happens the enemy could advance and take the city without you got your production.
Or he could change his strategy and attack with planes so you´re forced to produce fighters and/or flak.
You had to abort actual production. No good idea.
That system maybe worked in empire deluxe, but AT is completely different and you can run into
lots of problems when you don´t get reenforcements every turn. Usually routed direct to the front.

One way which is close to what you want are predefined units as used in the scenario "1939".
Here you can buy units via action cards and pay for with produced political points.
The arrival hexes you specify with special arrival cards. But probably still too much "work" for you [:D]

Well, of course the current system would remain untouched, the templates would just be an 'extra' for times and places where it's suitable.

No big deal, it just seemed like it would be a nice feature. :)
