How do you play this?

Post by JudgeDredd »

I play each of my own games...never simming the game, never mind a season.

How do you lot play?

I know some people sim several years....why? Is the joy not hearing the crack of the bat? Watching it go down to the wire and bottom of the 9th?

Or do you sim a season so you can "manage" your team and do all the transfer palava?

Does anyone play like me? Each game is managed? It takes quite some time....I think I'm in my second year with a fair few hours under my belt.

Judge,

I'm right here with you. I GBG manage (Game-By-Game) every single game and handle everything firsthand. I've done this for two fictional associations (one entering it's 15th season, one entering it's 6th) and one historical association (entering it's 5th season). I have nothing against people who sim entire chunks of time, because we all like to do it our own special way. I too find that GBG managing really puts you IN the game, allowing yourself to become immersed in the team, the association and the world you've created.

I sim a week, then check out some boxscores, make any moves I might need to make, check out around the league a bit, then sim another week, rinse and repeat. I only play out my games if my teammakes the playoffs

I'll either sim a week or a month at a time. When it gets to "do or die" time, I'll manage the game. I wish I had the time to manage every game. I agree, it really puts you in to the game!!!

I play out each game of my managed team, and sim the remainder.

One of the many great things about PS is the ability to do BOTH. I've simmed a week at a time and made roster moves in so-called "God"/Commish mode. I've also done season replays managing each of my team's games. I love both modes and each provides its own enjoyment.

It's even possible (by changing the human-controlled team after every game) to actually manage EVERY game in a season, but I cannot imagine going that route.

The one thing lacking (IMO) is the ability to set up an assn as "multiplayer" (thereby controlling all roster moves) AND being able to manage within that same assn. Under the current parameters of the program, I can EITHER:

(1) Set up as Multiplayer with all teams under human control, mirror the actual roster moves from MLB, and SIM all of the games, or:

(2) Use a sandbox mode or season replay, manage all the games, but stand by as the AI-controlled teams sign and release players at their whim, irregardless of whether a particular player ACTUALLY appeared on their roster during a given year. This is acceptable to me as long as I have AI trades turned off. Doing this keeps all but the fringe players from changing from their real-life MLB teams. I could also look at all transactions each day and "undo" those which didn't occur in MLB, but that is verrrrrrrry time-consuming.

Basically, I just want the ability to mirror all MLB rosters, with control over the trades, signings, releases, retirements, etc., then let the game engine play out the games (with the ability to manage a game if I choose). Until then, I'll continue to enjoy this great program and work around this issue the best that I can.

Happy New Year to all of the Simmers out there!

I manage the games against division leaders or the stiffer competition in my division.  I usually sim games against the bottom feeders.

Managing the complete game is the ultimate culmination of all your work up to that point.

I rarely manage an entire game, however. I just go by whatever mood I'm in at the time.

What I've done recently is sim an inning at a time. If I start winning, I'll sim multiple innings. If I'm losing by 1 or 2, I'll get in and try to save the game.

The greatest reward is when you manage the entire game and pull it out by one run because you put in a pinch hitter, or bunted at the right time. This stuff makes a difference, and it's what we're all thinking when we watch a real game of Baseball.

I do the same.
